you didn't run
even though you could have
even though you were scared half to death
you didn't protest
even though you hated the thought of war
you hated people disrespecting our nation and flag even more
you went
and it devastated your family
and me
because now
you're on the wall

Dedicated to Army SSgt Wallate Fred
Thibodeau, age 26, who died in the
service of his country, 19 July, '69.
I don't know him...let me explain.
I was looking at the Virtual Vietnam
Memorial Wall on the Internet.
All those names...
58,226 of them...
Out of all those names, I don't know
why I picked that particular Panel
to look at, or why the poem you read
above came to me when I read his
name.
I've never had a poem come to me that
fast before. I almost couldn't write
it down quickly enough...
This is why I'm dedicating this write
to him.
Thank you, Sgt Thibodeau, for your
inspiration, and for your bravery.

Hello: I was pleasantly surprised to find this poem with my friend Julie Karel who is a poet also. The poem you wrote was to my brothers memory, Wallace Fred Thibodeau. It touched me a great deal. I would like to thank you for your inspiration. I would like you to know how close you were as to the reality that day. You were definitely inspired by God.
He was born in Montana and raised in Garden Grove, CA. He was in Viet Nam, off and on (mostly on) from 1964 to the day he was killed. I also miss Buddy, and how strange it was to see you refered to him as Buddy..his nickname since he was a small boy.
May God continue to inspire you writing.

Wow! As a younger veteran, I want to thank you for this lovely tribute to Vietnam veteran, I've been to the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington, D.C., a couple of time. Stuff like this doesn't hit home until you talk to some of the men and women who served during Vietnam. So many of them didn't want to even say they served in Vietnam because the American public didn't want us in a war there. (Hmm..sounds familiar) Recently my newspaper did a big special section and as a veteran I did the section on war and we had a chart of all our local Vietnam casualties who have their names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial ... that's when service to your country really comes home. This is truly a patriotic write.
