Immortal Motion

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What is immortality but a state of constant change?
An avenue we walk on
That is full of energy and movement
A sea of hidden waves and mysterious surroundings
We sail upon without end
What is death but a dead end street?
A state of mind that refrains to complete
Its sojourn through a network of stars and visions
A noncompliance with heaven’s evolving stature
An attitude of defeat and annihilation
That so fills the heart with fear and woe
That dreams become stagnant
And heavy with stillness
What is life but an alley that leads the soul
To a door that has never been opened
For it has always been ajar
And is near yet so far
Behind it
Waits what is always ahead
What is immortality but the verve to advance
Into the chance of not returning
To reveal what appears concealed
To remember what we always have known
That we are enduring spirits in an everlasting spasm of motion
...Feel I should try to rise to some sort of an attempt at exegesis on the nature of immortality - but just can't do it! (What a relief!!) I have looked at this a couple of times before, and continue to be just floored and decked by it. This is beautiful and compelling, Jude, and has quite a hermetic feel to it - in a good way!! Excellent analogy of what a living death is like - a refusal to metamorphose, and grow to meet your full potential, perhaps. And then there's that door ajar which is the image that really grabs me and draws me in - like following the White Rabbit! I thought I was Kate, but perhaps I've just always been Alice instead?! Come to think of it, The Pool of Tears does sound familiar! TY for this, Konfused xx
Stunning, Robert, absolutely breathtaking... I'm beyond words. I am eternal. Bravo.
I can say you have a superior grasp on creating images from words that seem to strike memories from within, comforting, yet, almost scary...
An epiphany must come before the spirit can ascend to the immortality that awaits the soul.
As a leaf can become a tree, so can the body become the Spirit. Death is Life. Insightful write. Powerful ending :-)
This is pretty amazing stuff, Robert. Even death has a door that leads to the light, for there is no death of the spirit. I think it is more like a reptile shedding its skin. We stretch out, pull forward and emerge again new, free of the frailities of the human body. This is excellent writing as you cross the dark with the light and point out that there is always choice and that life, is a forward motion.
Take care,
Sherry
I think this puts words to what the sages, philosphers, religious leaders and your fellow poets past and present have been trying to say about life. Well done Robert...five stars
This is a wonderfully expressed truth. "What is life but an alley that leads the soul To a door that has never been opened For it has always been ajar" If only people knew what was waiting for them beyond the narrow entrance, they wouldn't be so afraid. I hate to be the picky one, but in the 11th stanza, should it be, "immortality"?
Robert, you are so smart. I love this poem. We always wonder if we are doing enough, if our lives have been worth being lived.
A verse to end all verses, my friend. Superb.
