Poem Artwork

I am walking into a tall building

    there are gargoyles seated

on the corners of the top floors

the elevator men are bulky and faceless

their fingerless hands beckon me into the iron hoist

the floor light is set on zero

beginning to spin in a frantic blur

I have this compulsion to go upstairs so I enter

watching hesitantly as the door slowly closes

the view of the lobby disappears

I am moving upwards as well as sideways

though I feel as though I am going nowhere

and this sensation I am being watched

                   finally, the door slides open

 onto the 13th floor

I peer out and look side to side

    there is only darkness

except for the sparkle of lips

    speaking unintelligibly

fanatically mumbling in tongues

filtering in and out of my hearing range

suddenly sunbeams pop through a tinted window

and I am transformed into a mystical museum

at least, that’s what this shadow informs me

                                   a shadow

bidding me good health and a safe journey

and to watch out from being seduced

              by voluptuous voices

                   soon all sound surrenders,

             as the elevator descends rapidly

 I open my eyes

sweating out the scent of lipstick and spice

              rising to unfamiliar forms

falling into the twilight’s brave new gleam

                                  ka-boom

This piece is written in the language of dreams, with its own logic and semantics. I like the structures, the textures and the rise and fall.

Once again, I love your experiments with dream vision. I'm going to show this round to some friends with whom I have just been discussing dream language in avantgarde cinema. There is something very cinematesque, very visual in these poetic descriptions, which easily translates into colour and rhythm.

ka-boom indeed! The visual makes me think of the amazing glass houses in Kew Gardens which are vast, sweaty and full of such ironwork. As the elevator crashes again to the floor, like at basement level, I can hear that ka-boom loudly as it explodes through clouds of dust, hear the rustle of lips and scented voices and sense the shadowy, enclosing movements of mystical, trifid-like shapes which seek to gather round as your silhouette emerges. Like Amber says, 13 would appear to be a significant detail and sounds very close to home: interesting you had to pass that way first in order to be briefed! :)) xx

Hey Jude,
This is explosive for sure..wow another stimulating dream escape. I cannot believe you actually got off on the 13th floor very interesting because in the Italian culture the number 13 is a lucky number..so my mind is racing with the ending "ka-boom" You really know how to dream in living color and of all things, Gargoyles, umm sounds a little like Ghostbusters meets Shutter Island...very eerie dreaming there Jude...
I hope I dream of purple haze and mystical mermaids tonight... wishing you good vibrations and lovely images to use in your dream scape this evening...

Peace, light and love,
Amber

Now that is a very vivid dream, especially the part about the 13th floor. my dreams are more mundane. Generally I find myself spinning around and falling off the bed to the floor–about 2 feet. Surely enough to hurt me, but not to kill me. When I wake up, I'm always in the same place on the bed because I cannot move new places. However, the dreams seem very real and I actually think I am falling to the tile floor. Ka-ouch!

WoW! Jude, I took that very same trip during my acid days. Heavy, man, heavy.

Haha! Naw, just kidding around. I enjoyed the kaleidoscope menagerie as you traveled upward in that tall building. I probably knew some of those gargoyles, but you didn't linger long enough to be sure.
