~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sometimes when you try so hard to win
You just end up losing
Losing the desire to dream out loud
Losing the will to embrace the crowd
Once enthralled you now seem lost
For the cost is more than bargained for
The hand slams the door closed
The mind wonders its worth
Sometimes when you embrace the stars
You find their flame is much too far
And you end up getting burned by emptiness
And cease feeling blessed
You give up trying to touch the sky
You stop the pulse to wonder why
Sometimes the verve to teach
Becomes so distant it’s out of reach
The mountains dissolve back into the sea
The daring climb transforms into mediocrity
Sometimes it pays just to lie down on the sand
And listen to waves forget to touch land
You express human nature so well! Who hasn't chased a dream only to feel let down after attaining the one thing we desired? Who among us hasn't sabatoged ourselves right when success was so close? Who hasn't realized that what we thought would bring happiness, can also bring sorrow and pain to us or someone else and let go of the dream? An excellent poem, Ace.
Dear Jude,
Sometimes it all seems very daunting, but what beautiful poetry reminding one to be at peace, your last two lines brings it all home. Thank you for the reminder Jude.
p.s. sometimes we're so wound up we just can't think, sorry I have been away so long :(
yep.. this is where I've been of late, in a state of sweet surrender, not really happy with how my daring climb has dissolved into mediocrity but at peace with the lull of the waves for now. wonderful poem!
You seem to have hit on something wonderful here, Robert. I am facinated by the darker side of human nature and you have touched on that aspect with a certain kind of brillance I seldom reach (if ever). Outstanding.
... to lie down on the sand and play at being the turtle or the tortoise, instead of attempting things in the same way as the go-getting hare! Stopping and keeping in touch with oneself is the key to realising your full potential, harnessing one's true source of energy within. And waves forgetting to touch land?! IMPOSSIBLE!! We can never be fully alive whilst not remaining true to ourselves, but the shedding of skins and a few false trails leading to dead ends are perhaps necessary to truly birth that seed of knowledge within us so as to yield its more fragrant and succulent fruit... and my tutors are just gonna LUV this!! A needed write for me today - bless you!! LOL Kate xx :))
This is awesome, Robert and it reminds me of the old saying: "Be careful what you wish for"...though you say it with so much more grace and creativity. Sometimes, the way we envision something to be is much better than how it plays in reality. Your images are stark, rhyme and meter perfect. Wonderful Poem!
Take care,
Sherry
