~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wandering through streets
Through the tattered landscape of iron and glass
Through the montage of memory
Forming as a vision of tomorrow
Through daily prayers
Of common ground and shared psychosis
Of alienated beings interacting
Within life and dreams of better days
I know out there, somewhere
In the vast databases of the neon-horizon
In the clothes of the oppressed onlookers
In the paralyzed genes of distant lands
Awaits a vision of light
Awaits the resurrected being of creation
Pulsating like a glorious flood
Of melodic prophesy
I look up to the moon
Uncommonly bright tonight
And see the animal in mankind
Looking back
To the ground below
Right through me
Like a laser-guided realization
Of what may or may not be
I wonder of the streets at night
And of a world
Exchanging a fantasy of real experience
Happiness and horror
Like a field of broken glass
Like a teardrop drowning
In a pool of blood
I am not so much concerned now
With how I can change the world today
But how I can succeed in changing
The dreams of tomorrow
I wish I could convey, Robert, how much I like what I read here at the Den sometimes...I'd make a lousy critic (a blessing I think). Odd quirk, a poet that can't find sufficient words to praise a work they enjoyed, but I truly enjoyed this.
Robert, this is spoken through your Soul... and it appears you've left the Old behind you. The Dreams of Tomorrow... yes! That is what keeps my creative juices pursuing emergence. This poem inspires me (happiness and horror like a field of glass...) ... What a Gift you've given us.
I love this juxtaposition of solid, perennial, urban image against the backcloth of ephemera. The future of mankind is shaped by the formulation of vision that focuses human activity and galvanises it forwards. Otherwise it can sometimes seem like we are sucked into the vortex created by "dead men drowning"... well-meaning, but powerless to help. A subliminal sense of vulnerability and danger here, I think, too: you see the potential for "horror", but major always on the "hope", which I like. Of such is the future of mankind made secure. All of the dreams of tomorrow start today. Great imagery of which you are a master. Well done and I agree with Sara's remarks.
Robert - I wish you the best of luck in accomplishing your reengineering of the human psyche. Without a doubt, your poetry is one very big step in doing so. The next is in getting your message out to a wider audience than the AD crowd of a thousand. Your poetry is always so remarkable. It always leaves me speechless. Well almost speechless. LOL... ~ Sara
Great write. I had the read the last part a few times,but finally I understood your meaning. I first read it with the mindset that what we do today changes tommorrow. Then I realized that it was not being concerned for yourself, but for our young. Again, nice write.
This is pointed and sharp, Robert and cuts through all the prattle to the heart of the matter. It is not all about what we can do today, but what we prepare for our children and grandchildren that will ultimately change the world and the heart of man; we must each be part of the subtle changes or all of mankind will parish from the earth. This is an incredible write! Solid verses with lots of great lines.
Take care,
Sherry
