From the river that bends and weaves
Inside of itself
From the origin of nourishment
Feeding dreams with the prophecy of progress
Unconcerned with the ridicule of onlookers
Standing beside a liquefied edge of interpretation
Undistracted by undercurrents
Rocking back and forth in their own propensity
Transferring with them a vague sense of harmony
To thin surfaces, stretched out and wobbly
Here, ideals aimlessly drift
Along a fine line of incongruity
I move to higher ground
Where the river travels uphill
And the scenery is embellished with hope
And I can bathe the eyes within my mind
With colors reaching beyond the model’s form
With textures only molded by light
I will drink from the chalice of life
Handed to me by an old friend
You're usually on the path to ever higher ground, and this poem is no exception.

This does bring to mind the magnifiicent tundra of Gladstonbury..
A feast of images here, that leave one lamenting, and thirsty for the beauty life has to offer..
Progress built on dreams in itself, is a beuatiful image. Drinking from the chalice of life, being able to create an image beyond the model's forms is magnificient...
I agree Robert. There are many ways to place the lights in order to get the view one might 'want' us to get, but we have to be strong enough, to see what 'really' is, not just the mirage of make-up and backdrops.
One must be willing to look, before they could ever see.
Excellent writing!

This is absolutely incredibly beautiful. One of your best Jude.
BINGO!! You are on a roll here, Jude, and this one goes straight into my fav top ten... the evocative metaphors are both scintillating and tantalising, and the whole poem just oozes with "tingle factor", whilst at the same time rooting the emotions in the firm substance of the security of deep friendship: such precious relationships of true connection are indeed the well-spring of life itself. And, in the light of that knowledge, the "I move to higher Where the river travels uphill" seems the glorious paradox that is utterly comprehensible and delightful. Your words here are like the bubbling liquid, the contents of this most precious grail that you speak of! Bring on the bubbly...!! :)) (No, Andy; it's only 1030 and I haven't had a single drop yet!!) TY Kate xx :))
Robert, move to the higher ground,
Ah, I think you are there already.
Great poem Robert, I want you to drink to your fill.

This is beautiful and so inspirational A very good way to condition the mind and always remember.. life's a trap and this is wonderful to never let oneself fall into that trap. Individuality. Thank You

Layers of texture, colors and observations of personalities give this poem a life of richness and growth. The ending is superb. Keep drinking from the old friend's chalice. Fantastic write, Jude.
Old friends are tired and true, enabling us to trust their motivations where we are concerned. Being human, we all unfold throughout our lifetimes so it is true that we are always just beginning to know one another. We each have so much to offer, that the rewards of sticking with someone for the long haul can be bountiful.
These are great lines:
"I move to higher ground
Where the river travels uphill
And the scenery is embellished with hope"
This poem is a profound statement of hope and faith, Robert. Excellent writing!
Take care,
Sherry

Llife is a joy when we allow it to be :-) Great message written within these lines.
Hi Robert
This is comforting to me just now. I recently dared to embrace
the leading edge or my horizon. My shadow engulfed me from behind
within 24 hours -- still seeking to re-establish equilibreum.

Contraband Marriage, traveling along the hemline of loving after incarceration, is a love story written in lyric and free form, set in reality with a different ever after.
