~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In my dream I stumbled upon a playground
Children’s voices echoed through the piazza
Yet no one was around
Not even hiding behind the trees
Or running through across the paths
Into misty surroundings
The swings seemed to be moving ever so slowly
Swayed by a vibrant wind
Converging my thoughts
Within motion’s velocity
And now I am swinging back and forth
In an out, up and down
The autonomy of my own movement
Not concerned with anything but trying to recapture
Those gentle voices
Of children playing under the sun
Not pretending to be anything more than an observer
Attempting to participate
In the wonder of an untold heaven
It is strange, while in a dream, to imagine swinging while remaining still in sleep. The anotomy of ones own movement.
The days that seemed to last forever.
Brings back memories of ones childhood, and that when I used to watch my son, enjoying such times..
I find this poem kind of sad and melencholly yet hopeful at the same time almost as if you are waitin for the children to show up at anytime. Precious and innocent this readst to me.
A serene beauty to this... children are our past, present and future: our connectivity; and I love Star's idea of the portal. I feel there is also a strong sense of being rooted into the self, as well as being drawn out and into "the perfect place". Yes, somehow playgrounds are never empty - even when no-one is there. Life, movement, energy remains and connects where we have been with where we are going - like a crossroads. You have, perhaps, further captured the ultimate freedom, desiring to touch heaven and conquer earth and escape the confining gravity of the material world with your movement of the swing - for me, one of the most liberating experiences of my childhood... and adulthood, I have to say!! You capture here plenty of your "moods of motion", Jude and have created yet another "out of the cradle, endlessly rocking" write which opens windows of the soul for us, and takes us all along with you... and all so effortless! TY for this. Have a gooooood day!! :)) Kate xx
tis was a striking image to me, as i've had similar dreams. this was filled with both the comfortable warmth of memory and an eerie sadness, with neither feeling conflicting. this was great!
"the wonder of an untold heaven"...for a moment, just a moment, I was back in time. Jude do you think that we can, as a species, find that wonder again? I hope so! Eerie, how you can transport us to another place...a gentle place.
This dream poem says so much about your own youth. It is eerie yet soft and gentle. I am with Eileen. The last line is powerful.
There is something unsettling about a playground without children, even in a dream. If we sit quietly we can hear the voices of those who played there before and share in their laughter as our own history replays from the archives of our memory. There is a surreal feeling to this poem, Robert, it just grabbed me and pulled me into its spin. Very Nice!
Take care,
Sherry
