~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today I sat on our favorite rock
Out on the jetty
You know the really large one with a large hole in it
So you can see right through to the other side
And I recalled how we would look at each other
Eye to eye
Staring intently
Across the vast universe
Of granite and gneiss
Knowing our smiles
Penetrate the obstacles between us
And I thought how is it you always
Know how to handle
My overwhelming moods of coyness
And robust gusts of poetic nonsense
And how you sit back and watch the sailboats
Dance across the sound
When I am totally in touch with myself
And need to be alone
Well now I am alone
Watching the sailboats pair off in the distance
And miss you knowing me
Sitting on the bank watching sail boats go by. Cunjures so many vivid images. One can feel a sence of inner loneliness, that's waiting to spring out, to enjoy companionship once again.
A beautiful write Robert. I could see the granite and the gneiss (the New York area has some great out-croppings); and I could see how deeply you miss your partner. You are a masterful poet. ~ Sara
Dear Jude,
As always you express so eloquently and move people so easily with the sheer depth of your feeling. A sense of loss pervades this your latest offering and I wish with all my heart that you find what it is you are looking for.
With respect and admiration
Robert, This was just like reading a painting. Hearing the silence. Not only did it's colors, widen my eyes, it's sounds were shrill and clear.
A tremendously beautiful write.
"moods of coyness And robust gusts of poetic nonsense"??!! Just a hint of grandiose classical irony, here, I think, Sir Poet: Aristotle: "the jests of the ironical man are at his own expense..."!! Love your tender and self-reflective writes - just seeing the title come up with all lower-case, and then the line of little "waves" and I know what to expect! I don't know how you can possibly feel alone when there are at least about 30 of us sat on that rock with you: such are your powers of evocation! And as for the person who this write might be addressed to, well, if you can be so companionable and yet respectful of each other's space when you are sat in soulish communion together, then I doubt very much whether physical distance will keep that kind of interlocking of kindred spirits apart... take a look through the hole in the rock: you'll probably find that special face smiling back at you from the other side!! A wonderful Sunday morning feeling this leaves me with, thank you. Kate xx
"And miss you knowing me" Someone who really knows you (all of us) must decide whether to stay or leave. We people who have to, need to, require being alone are not accepted by everyone. This is a sad poem beautifully expressed.
Oh Jude,
This is so heartfelt and moving. The desire to be alone is good, but with it, also has to come the understanding, and all too often it is not forthcoming, or perhaps misunderstood. The time wil come, when the required elements will be abundant, someone who will undertand the same needs. Beautifully expressed Jude.
This is so emotive and moving, Robert. It seems that in our quest for time alone, we often end up alone all of the time. It is no easy task to find a person to share our time with who understands our need for alone time. I think it becomes a type of selfishness as we want their attentions when we want them and we want our alone time when we want it. There is something about that combination that invalidates the other individual's needs and desires. Keep searching, you will find an independent person who understands and appreciates both the times together and apart.
Take care,
Sherry
