oooo... that last cuplet hit the bullseye, Robert! Your commentary is of irrefutable truths, steeped with your usual unique word-magic. Oh, to think in metaphors and avoid the cold, slippery surface of facts.

A worthy write, my friend! The lessons of history, the behavior of man, and the greedy lust for money and power, will haunt us for as long as mankind survives. I agree with you: Trust your own instincts. And I add:
Take responsibility for your own actions. Let us hope that by consciously exhibiting the best within us, that evil and mis-trust will be present much less in the future than it has been in the past.
How true this is. And how apropos. I am sitting at my desk working on a paper on organizational power and politics. This poem would fit right in as it reads like a day at the office. ~ Sara

I think this is an excellent write. It gets to the soul's core. If a person has a caring heart and a conscience, they will "check" themselves to make sure they treat others right. Besides ugliness and seekers who want to devour usually "fizz out." Meaning they expose them ownselves soon or later.
It sounds like my industry...Such is war with a smile...After awhile you just learn to shake it off...the negativity always comes around to bite them in the ass...

The thing that drives me the most wild about such situations is how easy it is for such, "Conspirators," to get the attention of so many to do the dirty work for them. I use to be angry at them. Now I am angry at the people that listen to them and help them do negative things to others, all in the name of what? I trust few for this reason.
Your words are affective in their message. Great write. Perhaps this time the sheep will listen before they do something stupid?
Your poem wonderfully evoques the realm of jealousy and betrayal. Like the shadow follows the light, miserable attitudes accompany the great.

Yes this is sage advice indeed Robert and I feel it strongly.
Yes Robert this is a poem filled with wise advice that unfortunately we don't come to fully believe until we are either burned one too many times or we have the wisdom of age. Your poem sums it up quite well.
There are always those who would like to trick us or tear us down, create fears or insecurities in us and accent our vulnerabilities so that we will feel less powerful over our own destiny than we actually are. The trick is to tell ourself everyday that we have the power to control our own destiny and the strength to love and honor ourselves as we are. Let others do as they wish, but nobody can make us feel bad about ourself unless we let them. Perfectly penned as always, Robert.

Robert, Being and staying confident in who we are, is their worst nightmare. They draw strength from the weaknesses of their prey. If they can't penetrate the wall, they obviously can't hurt them.

Oh dear... why do I start to wobble when we get onto these topics? Must be my paranoid dysfunction kickin in as usual, and Andy has taken the words right out of my mouth - Scotland is not to be left out of the general melting pot that us glorious and incestuous Europeans are glued together by - especially us Brits. But Sir Winston, below, is also right in his assessment that the crowd, by enlarge, are easily led by the nose, and blinded by false trust, disinterest or adulation for the main part. Negative energy seems to be our poison of choice these days. Heigh ho... we stagger from the Rose to the Woes and from the Hothouse to the Frying Pan and the Fire... but then, who wants a quiet life after all?! An heroic soliloquy and wisdom piece, here, Jude. Oftentimes they fall into their own trap.
This has the impact of MacBeth.
This country's history is riddled with conspirators. Just look at the not so Royal family.
Too many go with the crowd, more often than not, the crowd is wrong..
This poem cuts to the heart of the matter. You have described with chilling accuracy what I have long known to be a most foul form of evil-yes EVIL. That is gossip, false witness, plotting or whatever label may be attached to same. It is spread by people who are, for the most part, miserable and must be pitied...
