Singing to the Light

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Adhering to convictions formulated
By obstructive ancestors
Living in the depths of archetypal teardrops
Barnacles on the bottom of a sunken vessel
Clinging onto a body of principles
That died a long time ago
Validity seems to have gone astray
Bubbles up from the depths
Like whispers spoken only to a baleful wind
Building up pious plaque in the veins of thought
Obstructing the life force
From circulating
Through the network of lifetimes to come
And of dreams yet to aspire into
I lie awake in an empty room
The only thing I can see is a window of stars
Where the naked run free
Waiting for my voice to return
And once again sing to the light
Perhaps you are anchored here, by a greater power or by free will, because when you sing to the light you inpsire others of us who know we belong up there too but feel stuck in a cold, dark world. So, whether from here or there, please keep singing. Brilliant mind you have. They love you there. We love you here. You get to run naked there one day. Meantime, sing on poet extraordinaire. Encore!
The chains of our ancestors will be our building blocks when we fully understand the puzzle we are part of. May the window open as your voice is heard.
I enjoyed this foray into the heart and soul of the poet...
Where the naked run free
Waiting for my voice to return
And once again sing to the light
Keep singing my friend. Never stay silent for a moment...
Pious plaque in the veins of thought - truly profound thoughts, Robert - but it sounds like you already know how to sing to the light.
I find it interesting that no matter how enlightened and inspired we become and how much we wish to keep our focus in the light, that the anchors of our past and of our ancestors before us, can seem to hold us down. They are like cement boots in the pool of life. Sometimes I wonder if it isn't the ongoing conflict of being both an animal and a spiritual being that triggers this grounded feeling. Excelent and thought provoking write, Robert.
Take care,
Sherry
We've all been there at some time or another. Feeling the feeling of being dragged around by the tenderest parts of our anatomy, with no way of breaking free. But we do. Sooner or later either we will break loose or the grip that has us will loosen. It's just surviving until then.
Interesting write Jude, thought provoking and wonderfully penned.
At some points in life we feel, indeed, so "tied" that even the will and energy to "untie" ourselves seem to evade us... but then, we suddenly find that the threads are made of salt and they have just melted away in the current. Then, we re-surface, to run free and naked as we once more sing to the light.
This poem took me through the journey that ensues from that standing point, through its deeply perceptive images and flow.
Beautiful title... when I almost died 15 years' ago, I had a "waking dream", like a movie, come before my eyes: I was keeling over on the bottom of the seabed, dressed in an old-fashioned divers' suit with the old lead boots on, running out of air and suffocating; ( I was unable to breath at the time...). I could feel the oppessive weight of the oceans' depths forcing me down. Finding only the strength to make a last-ditch pull on the "lifeline", I could feel myself collapsing unconscious, but then being slowly hauled up to the surface where I broke through the skin of the water into an amazing pool of light and took huge gasps of breath and could feel the air on my face and a new expansiveness. Although critically sick, I believed from this picture that God had given me that I would live, the lifeline being prayer. "Singing to the Light" is largely what I have been doing every since... sorry for the potted history, but this poem has brought back that memory so acutely as I read it. Yes, those naked astral bodies need The Voice to sing to them so that they keep imbuing the earth with light, energy and guidance. This has a rhythm, a flow and a lucidity of reason that holds the tensions of all of life's ups and downs together, like the life-force itself... Time to get up, Jude, I think!! :)) I love the way this ends on a rising, not a dying fall. TY Kate xx
Well said, Jude, if I understand your meaning. Before we can sing, we have accept our dying world and let it break our hearts and greive life as we know it. Sometimes I want to say, "No, you can't adjust your tv, the world IS falling apart around you, stop living in denial". But it is just as bad to be stuck in a doomsday mode. There is light at the end of all this. There is life reborn...
