~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I visited your grave today
Setting flowers
Next to the granite stone memorializing “beloved mother”
Cleaned off the excess grass and weeds
Thought of your bones
Deep within the earth’s fertile ground
Thought of how you prayed
To the saint of lost causes
Wondered how you smiled
From within the poems you wrote
Wondered who you were
And how quickly you vanished
How your warmth dissipated
After nursing me for three days
Thought of how alone I was in the scheme of things
Yet always realizing how you were always there for me
Some say there is no god
I say, now I am being nursed through you
By the mother of creation
Just beautiful... and any mother could wish for no more - than to enable her young to take full and independent flight of their own - even if, sadly, it IS after only three days of close mother-nurture. Makes me think of the mother eagle who stirs up her nest in order to compel the youngsters to find their wings; yet, in so doing, she flies beneath them with her pinions spread in order to catch them when they fall. One of the most perfect pictures of Mother Nature in operation. You also paint the most harmonious picture of the endless cycle of immutable, endless love that threads like DNA intergenerationally. And a sense of immortality. I have strong vibes of Walt Whitman, too, and the complexity of the Body Electric, of which your Mother must have been a part: "I celebrate myself, and sing myself, And what I assume you shall assume, For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you... Nature without check with original energy"... the present continuum: you in her and she in you and both of you in creation and creating: Pefection! Bless you and thank you. This is nurture and succour indeed. LOL Kate xx
If you happened to feel a gentle breeze or a drop of rain or a ray of sun against your face, then know your mother was kissing you through the mother of creation. I am so glad I am reading this so late tonight, because it reminds me of everything about being a mother - the pain, the joy, the loss, the love deeper than any other. And it reminds me, too, that a mother's love is there so long as her children honor and celebrate her presence in their lives - whatever form that presence takes. Thanks so much for posting this, Jude.
So sad when I still have my seventeen year old mother with me, going to a buffet with my father, and then a little gambling if her foot doesn't hurt too much. Recently, before leaving after our cruise together, she stopped me outside my garage so that I could sign my novel she had bought and brought in the car. It's good to see that you've risen above that loss to become a poet for our times. She would be proud.
So many wonderful tributes to "mother" today... reading yours caused me pause, Jude. There's a feeling of raw exposure, your senses laid bare... and a sweet unveiling of your sincerely felt heart-thoughts. It's seemingly unbiases, true, but also melancholy. You mix them beautifully. katy xox
God let her hang around long enough to get you to the wonderful place where you are. That is an eternal act of a mother's love.
This tender write reflects the gentle life-force of Mother. A part of her spirit lives in you and is expressed through your creation and whatever and whomever you may nurture in this lifetime...
This write is so powerful, Ace.
My heart as a Mother, today is not whole.
Mothers never leave their children, in spirit.
Alive or gone. A Mother's love is amazing.
It never withers. Celebrate with her.
super, Robert.
Some maybe wrong,
some maybe right,
birds wings had design for flight.
There's a start and an ending,
ones belief is depending.
Depending on fact or fiction,
the belief in a Creator gets friction.
During the grind,
one could lose mind
or maybe find God.
This is heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time, Robert. A warm and tender tribute to the woman who birthed you but was unable to remain to raise you. Some scars never heal, they burn for as long as we live.
Take care,
