~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In my dream, a giant spiral staircase
Rises into the heavens
From within the heart of an iceberg
It is on fire
As the melodic force of the wind
Howls across its sparkling structure
And the frozen night air
Releases waves of arctic warmth
There are bursts of light
Erupting across moonlit clouds
As though the universe was signaling
In a secret code
I climb this staircase
Engulfed in flames
Consumed by the intensity of ascension
Neither fear nor apprehension
Will prevent my dream from thawing
And as I reach the top of the spiral staircase
It collapses
But I have reached over without being burned
And will dream again tomorrow
When the horizon reawakens
And the spiral staircase returns once again
Here are the extremities that attend the moment of creation, written in a dream symbology to will not lead one astray. Courage is often central in your poems, the tireless spirit of a born explorer. Someone has to venture up there, and grant that vision as a boon for the rest of us.
"Neither fear nor apprehension will prevent my dream from thawing..." Love that line! Some things follow a state of progression gaining momentum as they go forward until they reach their ultimate conclusion. I think that we obsess too much on what might happen. At any rate, this is a crackerjack write and enjoyable dream, Jude. Peace...
Ahh, so you emerge from Hell frozen over, and by the light of faith you are guided through the maze of flames and into the safety of the unfolding promise of eternal life. By believing that there is something more, even your dreams are led by faith and eminent knowledge. This is a wonderful poem/dream, Robert. It encompasses so many layers that I could spend hours unwrapping each of them and falling into the images that they initiate.
Take care,
Sherry
This is either a beautifully scripted poetic marvel or the results of research into the ozone depletion. (Sorry... I'm in a mood.) What is it about a spiral staircase that climbs into the sky? Your visuals, Jude, always find plenty of space in my head... then I sit for a bit and thank god I have an imagination.
"And will dream again tomorrow" I tend to find the positive... this did very nicely. katy xox
Ah, but your thawing dream quenches our thirst! :)) Especially if there will be more tomorrow... Another one to exercise the frozen grey cells with its pictoral paradoxes and delightful extremes. Would you believe I actually have lyrics playing at the moment about "trying to climb the stairs inside someone else's head" - yes, you probably would! Puts me in mind a little of what I was grappling with in my "Death By Exposure" poem - intrinsically about allowing ourselves to become vulnerable and therein finding true and naked warmth and love. But this seems perhaps a bit more Indianna Jones: just within tantalising reach of some holy grail that must be gone into the heavens to get - and damn! Don't you just HATE that when the dream dissolves just before THE heartstopping moment...?! I love the poise and delicacy of this write amid the stark contrasts of heat/cold, dark/light. It's like watching fireworks from a great distance. And I like the suggestion that this is a waking dream, or a day-dream that this firey staircase is a part of, bridging heaven and earth. Hope you keep on "reaching over" cos you are bound to "arrive" eventually! Oooo - OK, Mr Plant, I'm off to dig out me fav Led Zep now...."In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees and the voices of those who stand looking... and a new day will dawn for those who stand long and the forests will echo with laughter..." - have forged me own link between (m) and (n) !! Sorry, I always seem to treat your work like a mental trapeze! Hope the Piper turns up soon to lead us to reason, as the man says... LOL Led Balloon Kate xx :))
