Dream Scene (r) … Ghost Castle Memoir

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In my dream, I’m standing beside a tall castle
Reaching into a crimson black sky
I am surrounded by broken armor
As hundreds of arrows and swords
Are scattered across the cliff
Where the castle rests upon
The stone walls glisten with metallic sweat
And its base is mossy and slippery
As mist rises from a deep ditch surrounding the frontier wall
To the side of the castle
There is an orange moon
With long slender clouds traversing its skin
The sky is pulsating with bursts of lightning
Illuminating a terrain of broken bones
Skulls impaled on spears
Flicker on and off
From the bolts of electrical brilliance above
Like in a post-modern surreal movie
As drawbridge closes behind me
I approach the portcullis
And notice an insignia of a cross inside a circle
The wooden gates slowly begin to open
Revealing a myriad of ghost bodies
Mostly women and children
Aimlessly wandering through the courtyard
They are the only remaining inhabitants
Passing through me
As if I’m not there
Crying and moaning
Screaming for help
And as I walk through the gates
I see a knight’s shield levitating before me
In it I see my reflection
With a dark bird branded onto my chest
I am totally overwhelmed
By the feeling that I have been here before
Deja vu in a dream?
As I awaken I can hear the cackle of crows
Gathering in a tree outside my window
In a dream my sins are crows dressed in black.
This is very descriptive. Excellent piece.
Reads like a scene from a gothic movie, with crisp visuals--almost a window into some dark dimension. You should write the screenplay.
Night terror for sure, triggered by those crows cawing in your subconscience.
Dear Jude,
Unlike me, you have captured every last detail of your dream, perhaps getting into the habit of jotting it all down as soon as you wake. This is a most intriguing and captivating write. Deep thoughts, but I stand firm on my beliefs, astral travel/projection.
Take care Jude.
We often meet with the reflections from our past through dreams and memories that are often sparked by sounds as we sleep. This is a great deal of symbolizm in this dream that could be be used as a stepping stones into another dream that might bring clarity to you. Thank you for this sharing.
Such a vivid dream as this is a welcome to the reality tales of real life as it is today. Makes one to be riding there in armour at your side to defend the honour of the land. Very interesting dream scream Jude well done.
I like the psychobiological journey in this transcendental poem written with neomodern POV. Though you say you are dreaming, the scheme of things and the logical flow is unflappable. Dark symbolism, and the duality of existence both in dream and at last "as I awaken I can hear...." in reality have been used to perfection. I wonder is this about changing life positions, or generations, or a cartography of modern world. I need more clues for an answer, but I like the fact that this poem can stand for so many reasons! "Castle" is a symbol of a treasure, a glory, or something even more sacrosanct...its presence gives a direction! Only nit that I may have is regarding the logical underpinning of a dream sequence, here your dream looks to be too vivid and well explained...but then this fact elevates the poem over its temporal plane. A CHEF DE OEUVER of the highest order!
This dream is deep, dark and frightening. I certainly want to believe that you are reliving the past and not looking into the future. Perhaps you were a warrior and always felt remorse for the families of the enemies you slew. The images you paint are strong and clear. I could feel the chilliness and smell the subtle stench that I always associate with all of my encounters with ghosts in my own dreams. I hope the rest of your dreams, while vacationing, are a bit sweeter than this one.
Take care,
Sherry
This is exactly the kind of dreams that I have and I do not speak about much b/c people think I'm nuts. It's also driven me to the shrinks office and they don't know squat. I have ordered a book on Dream Interpretation and I also pray that God gives me the correct interpretations so that I may deal with them.
Awhile back, I dreamnt that 2 of my friends, a Dad & son died on the same day, needless to say that came to pass and I attended a double funeral last sat. So weird. I have another one that I am not at liberty (or comfortable) to speak about just yet but it has elements of your 'Ghost Castle'
Take care my friend,
Always, Janny xoxoxo
Good Lord! When was this? This seems the total inverse of the great Flamenco vibes I was soaking up last Wednesday night in a castle in Tarifa, Southern Spain, which was the seat of blood-curdling battles between the Spanish and the advancing Moors, over from Africa only five miles across the narrow Atlantic strait there. I've just come back a few hours' ago with a pocket FULL of stuff I'm about to bore everybody with - and, being all about wind and light and such, should be just up your cosmic highway. But I see that you is on vacation, so there we go. Anyway, this is fascinating; the shepherd's hut we stayed in has an old Spanish table with mysterious logos burned into the woodwork - a large A within a circle (for Andalusia, perhaps?) with a crucifix cross above it. This just means I shall start my sequence later today with Flamenco In The Castle - thanks for this eery reminder and have a great break! This is too real to be true - in the sense that it is, I mean. The imagery is so evocative and I can vouch for the fact that it DOES seem to be a flashback, certainly to something I can readily now imagine anyway. Wow, it's good to be home...! LOL K xx (Can't sleep!!)
