the Monster Threat

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The monster threat hides within our daily dreams-
Sets itself upon fears and suspicions,
Perched upon the fanatic longings
Of distant voices: delivers itself
As the prodigy of dislodged reasoning: creeps
Into our minds like acid teardrops
Across the human skylight
Blurred by misplaced hatred and dogma,
Proclaiming explosions of disaster
Surrounding our thoughts and emotions-
Arranged by a shattered
Covenant of bleeding selves
Oozing
Within the light of broken moonbeams:
Proclaiming victory
In a warped vision
Of tomorrow’s potential horizon
Evil has always boosted of it's win ......before it falls once again to the way things are to be. Keep the faith.
I could quote just about every line from this poem. Fear is often self inflicted. All that which the mind conceives, both good and bad, I believe comes to pass; the good often intercepted by drops of negativity. I really liked this poem, Jude.
Profound story of life. Fear V faith. Good V evil. The plague of mankind. Which is magnified with too much media attention. The "monsters" thriving and growing with all the attention that is given them.
An intense and haunting write made all the more powerful for the light it shines upon the shadows looming and ruling inside oneself.
"creeps Into our minds like acid teardrops" - so visual, and such a potent description of the nature of fear and terror, and what it does to our state of mind and emotion: burns us up! Fear is a spirit, I think; it can invade us to the deepest recesses of our being and poison from the inside, causing us to withdraw, as Sherry says, into isolation that is both physical and emotional. It is only, I think, by our counter spirit of a deep inner confidence of self-knowledge, understanding and love of the who and what we are, and what all others of the human race are, that can resist this insidious invasive spiritual state. If, by the knowledge that we are unquenchable human spirits, we can refuse to be cowed and to move - even in very small and personal ways - OUTWARDS to overcome whatever seeks to overthrow us, individual and corporate, then that has to be the way forward, to disempower the threat of terror, in whatever form it presents itself. We are alive; we are going to die bodily: fact; but, living in constant fear, I think, is NOT being alive; it is waiting for the inevitable, for death. On the other hand, refusing to yield to fear and living in such a way that we hold all things material lightly, and place a higher value on living and breathing spirits of hope and confidence, instilling into each person that affirmation of their eternal worth and value so we have no need to try to "cling on" to the little that we have here... then one day of that kind of "spiritual expansion" into the general environment must be worth a whole heap of "hiding oneself away behind the shutters". I particularly like the "firmed-up" and concrete shape to this one, Jude, notwithstanding the "ooziness" of the "slimey" substance of it! Very black and white - like an old Hitchcock film! K xx
Great poem, Jude. All things in balance. On the one hand we do have valid fears based on real data indicating impending doom for which we must plan, i.e. the flooding of New Orleans; no one wanted to believe it would ever happen. On the other hand, America is a society that thrives on fear and so often fear of disaster, crime, terrorists, each other, the end of the world, is used to keep us in line or to win elections in some cases. ;-) I just read something about your city's mayoral election suggesting that the recent high-threat terror alert was a ploy on the mayor's part to look more mayoral during election time. Welll.... It wouldn't be the first time an elected official running for office used the public's resident fear to get more votes. The oddest thing is a spiritual law that seems to work that the more we fear something, the more we draw it to us. Love the poem. Heavy write. It's late at night, I'm overthinking. Hehehe. ~~Nordette
You captuured the antagonists plots to perfection, Jude! All day I've been pondering and finally concluded that when it comes time to believe what we've known since the beginning of time, we don't want to believe it, but the signs are all here. Powerful poem as only you can create!
It is the terrorist's creed, Jude. More than anything else they want for the world to live in fear; so we dredge up all of our paranoia and we justify it by pointing to the state of the world. We feed the beast and he LAUGHS. Great write!! I am saving this.
Take care,
Sherry
