Light is a Burden

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Light is a burden:
              the Sphinx is pointed in the wrong direction
      the Tigris River is birthing blood
           the American shoreline is vanishing
       the polar caps are melting
             royalty dines on octopus
          the legislature refrains from dreaming
     a dictator proclaims his innocence
Light is a spectrum:
             the lunar surface is in my belly
       truth is a dying poet
                 the answers lay in a scroll of dust
Because dreams are dining in a field of cotton
        exchanging recipes time will devour
Because earthquakes are the witchery of movement
   and hurricanes are the breath of far-off hands
         molding the disturbance of ordered cycles
Because millions of dislocated bodies
     are the center of attention
    rotating to the momentum of an unfocused world
Light is without direction:
         the stars are but memories
        heaven and hell are conceptual incongruities
      salvation is the evil of losing perspective
              enlightenment is the shadow of super novas
Because I can hear my heartbeat
             from within these walls of oblivion
 Because I am moving to a milieu
            where the neighbors are translucent
Because windows are without reflection
And life is but of beam of unwanted visions
Looking for an avenue to be resurrected upon
Good Lord! Remind me to go away more often... or at least to leave your page alone for a bit to let others have their proper say and to let you get on with your work... the work that only YOU can do, Jude. In my totally wobbly physical state, this renders me completely (well, you know...!) speechless; it is rapier-like and scintillating, sparking off all those synapses you're so keen on. This is flagship stuff and I love the form and "wandering" layout which is such a sharp contrast to the piercingly acute thoughts which this poem articulates but suits its message well. You have grasped here the inexpressible of the observable and tangible and left us grappling towards the answer that might only be found super or supra-naturally: we have everything that pertains to material wealth and understanding to bring the very best to our created world - but the supernatural wisdom to interpret and apply it seems cloaked to our veiled minds which seem to prefer to live in denial and ignorance in pursuit of the purely immediate - both in spatial and temporal terms. The result is as you flawlessly pen it here. Fantastic lines: "Because dreams are dining in a field of cotton exchanging recipes that time will devour" and "Because millions of dislocated bodies are at the centre of attention rotating to the momentum of an unfocussed world". Jaw-dropping... off back to bed in a heap! :))... But I'm doing well, thank you! xx
SO many quotable lines here. ..."truth is a dying poet/the answers lay in a scroll of dust. . ." You have captured the truth, and
it is even uglier than we thought. But only by capturing and imprisoning it -- torturing out sane behavior? -- do we have a chance of keeping the poet alive. Hope my point is clear. Yours is not only clear but
beautifully expressed. Encore! Encore!! P <3
Jude you have put the world into a deep perspective of where we are going and what is the cost of us going there/ Your verbal journey leaves not for a means of return to what might have been which makes this work all the more poignant.
A poem somewhat like a solar flare with equal parts beauty and terror illuminating all the paradoxical realities most of us would rather not acknowledge. Line by line an exceptional write.
Here is a poem that, like light, is part exposition, part illumination. This has the density we all feel with the increasing weight of darkness that seems to characterize our time. Yet it also implies motion toward something and the necessary shedding of what hinders our progress. Though all seems dark and foreboding, we have only to look at light from a diferent perspective, through the prism of your clear and multi-faceted poetry, Jude.
At times it seems as though I am navigating my ship through a mire of refuse and negative thought. I feel as though the breath of the unenlightened has stolen the sky and is causing me to breathe in the black sooty air of confusion. Pressing through to the other side is like walking 50 miles on a balance beam, wondering when and if we will stumble and be sucked into the sea of oblivion. All of this is, of course, a curtain of illusion and if we venture past it, we will find the shining prism of light that calls us to a higher place. This is an excellent contemplative poem, Jude.
Take care,
Sherry
The totality of this, I think, is avoiding deposits of political fat and wasteful matter of the earth's metabolism. If the earth and heavens respond to this at all, it will be because the prophet of Jude is being heard. We do understand the nature of this relationship, but it doesn't alter the fact. This writing needs to be written on a goatskin scroll and preserved for the future of humankind.
