Stillness Allows Me to Hear Movement

Stillness
Allows me to listen to my sincerest thoughts

Movement reassigns the clutter of my being alive
So I can reevaluate my motives and meanderings

It is a challenge to remain lucent
Within the values of a shrouded world

Sharing the spectrum of association
Surrounded by shadows without answers

My effort to endure relies on my distinction of perception
And my acquiescence for enduring extremes-

So where does this soliloquy lead to?
And when does my voice find solace?

Where will I go
When my mind detaches from my brain?

When my spirit demands adventure
Within a dull and dreary terrain

I find myself in a dilemma
Listening to a soliloquy that can never be heard

Concentrating on more
Than I am willing to explain

Conversing with myself
And to the ears I aspire to attain

Questions that I often ask myself :-) The stillness is a place we visit and touch upon with new awareness. Funny how we often avoid such pleasure. I feel a sadness for the ones I have witnessed that are afraid of their own thoughts :-( Been there myself. Great write.

Some people are afraid of the quiet and the stillness, afraid to converse with themselves. But how can the poet not do it? Well, how can any soul that hopes to grow not do it? An expansive poem, Jude. And now, after listening to your most recent Poem of the Day recital, which I enjoyed, I know that I've been saying your last name wrong. Oh, well, guess I'll stick to Shaman Strudel. ~~Nordette

"Be still and know..." the Good Book says. I agree with Paul: stillness allows the spirit to speak. All we have to do is listen and it seems to me you do that rather well. As to the poem's question? Only the poet knows. :-)

This poem tells me that you live your life intentionally. I imagine you a very kind person to others. Not intimidating in spite of your awesome intellect. Beautiful words.

Fantastic... the song of the spiritual man - in the world, but not of the world; bound in to the oneness of human experience and psyche, whilst yet being inwardly set apart to calibrate "life, the universe and everything". Classical poetry both in theme and styling. The first ten lines made me think of a spinning top, how captivating it is in it's self-balancing movement and yet how still it appears all the while; and love the concluding couplet in that section, "My effort to endure... distinction of perception...enduring extremes" - like the separation that takes place between liquid metal and dross (!!) during the refining process. Wonderful struggle in the second half between conscious and subconscious selfs, schooled mind and actual reality: the hardest dialogue of all! You must surely know by now that, whether you speak vision out into the atmosphere, or bounce around your own internal matrices, your mental gymnastics seek to make sense of life, purpose and living for the rest of us. You soliloquys instruct all those flies on the wall with "ears to hear" - of which there are many, I think. Great elipsis in the final couplet: "conversing with myself And to the ears I aspire to attain": those of A N Other, the world, deity. Great work, Jude. Enjoy your stillness... I'll let you get back to it and wrap up! :)) Keepinquiet Kate xx

Strangely - or maybe not - this Stillness reminds me of the one of a mother to be, listening, in the stillness, to the life pulsing within her. Here, the soliloquy becomes, in fact, the utmost depth of dialogue. And when the mind finally detaches from the brain (what a masterful image, Poet!), and stillness gives birth to the words, there will be other stillnesses waiting to welcome - to hear - the Poems in Motion that have been aspiring to attain them... as they have been silently aspiring to hear its movement, in their own stillness.
Absolutely exceptional, dear Jude.

Another manifestation of Zen. Through this poem, the Zen comes as a reminder that if we do not quiet the mind, listen, and perceive the beauty of our present life, our present hour, that we will not perceive any life, any hour. This poem, Stillness Allows Me to Hear Movement has several hundred images to me, that keeps turning day and night like a never-ending Zen prayer wheel. This poem is a runway from which the human spirit can take off for its flight of the alone to the Alone. Thanks Jude, for the stillness and the "zen ear" this time to compliment the "zen eye."

When all goes silent, listen with your soul; it will tell you more than words ever could. It can be difficult at times to close out the clatter that is our world and listen to the silence that holds all truth and vision of our future. In order to evolve, we must rise up above the physical world and listen to the voice of the Great Spirit as it speaks to us of all there is to know. Intense poem with excellent and unforced rhyme...you just gotta know I love the ones that rhyme!! ;0)
Take care,
Sherry
