Rogue Waves

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sea will betray you in an instant
One minute you’re sailing on tranquility’s surface
Enjoying the composure of a sunny afternoon
Then when you least expect it
These unusually tempestuous waves
Will rock you up and down
‘Round and ‘round
So that your mind and body
Are spinning and whirling
In uncontrollable fits of frenzy and upheaval
It almost seems they come out of nowhere
These deleterious bodies
Revealing their hidden nature
By trying to take you under
And make you sick
With their impulsive design
And their brutal nature
They almost seem to enjoy their own temperament
Laughing and roaring in your face
With their fiddling character
For they fooled you
On just what the sea can expose on a sunny afternoon
Never experienced one, but I understand they can be killers or a surfer's heaven.
... Reminds me of shades of Riptide... but then...da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-... sounds also like Jaws is in the water with this one, so don't spose you fancy too much goin in for a swim?! Laughing and roaring; fiddling and fooling makes me think of the happy/sad characters in harlequin suits, diddling about with tricorn hats that ring bells with every move... OK when they're funny; a pain in the arse when they're not... guess I know how THAT feels. :) Some West Country lore: "Red sky at night, shepherd's delight; red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning"... but a red sky in the middle of a tranquil and sunny afternoon means nuthin but bloody trouble that's usually about to rain on my parade...!! Never mind... I'm sure that you will survive: I feel it in me... waters.... LOL Kate xx
Nature can be as tricky as people but at least the waves don't do it intentionally. :-) Really enjoyed the write, Jude. ~~Nordette
Jude,
I agree, the waves can be brutal at times, physically and metaphysically. Going to have to back up Joseph...good thing you
know how to ride them out.
Those rogue waves almost sound like rogue humans - be careful out there, Jude.
Thank goodness, you are an experienced sailor who knows how to navigate when the sea is rough.
Although this is what we face everyday, your words give me chills. Maybe because you are such a master at this. Even just standing and looking at the ocean is not safe. The waves will come to us eventually. Wonderful write, Jude.
Betrayal is an art performed by the polished artist of deceit and selfishness
Tis a cruel sea we navigate in life, best to take our bearings always
by the light of the Almighty, rather than by the shallowness and impermanence of mankind.
Yup. Many hidden whirlpools in life we must circumnavigate...
But all part of life's rich tapestry...
Great POEM! Every day life can seem like Rogue Waves. I try to remember I am a human being and living with other human beings. Thanks for sharing. Love, Betty
I do believe I've met a few of these rogue waves myself. Still feel the aftermath of their unexpected undercurrents today and still have a hard time swallowing the truth of the twisted echo of their mocking laughter. Such the light touch with this poem; very effective communication. Thx, Dawn
Having had a free ride over the Atlantic back and forth I can attest to what you say. There is no greater force than an angry sea.
Bullseye...brilliant..love it...sometimes the only thing that can spin you till your mind is cleared...washed clena in brine water till your nose run and your eyes cry out in frustration...and shut me up or I can fill this space with tooooo much blaaa-blah-blah's!!
Great job all-in-all!!
:)The ocean.... is just a great place to be!!
We are always astonished when things we love dearly,
turn on us. Nature is imbued with the same "breath of life" as humanity, but we aren't used to it betraying us personally, making us wonder as to the cause. This is a dynamic poem with mysterious underpinnings, that leaves the reader to form their own interpretation. Excellent !
A knave Key Largo metaphor for human nature disguised in the savage temper of the sea. For they have fooled me not, Jude, only left me their fraudulent nature. I am no more intimidated by their dishonesty and wave-polishing dance than a seafaring tattooed firebrand mermaid!
Fabulous inuendo in this piece, Robert. Either way I read it, I still come up with the same conclusion. Trust can be broken by even the most seemingly timid and devoted in our lives. Never get "too comfortable" and never lose sight of the horizon or our world can be dragged down with the unforgiving current of undertoe, leaving us befuddled and unable to find our way. Very nice!!!
Take care,
Sherry
