~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
there is an inner conviction all is not what it seems
that the world we know is a collective dream
that stars are memories and the sky a thought
that hope is a vision struggling to be sought
that words are vessels in a creative sea
when life is not expressing mediocrity
and the swirling fabric of our daily lives
is inscribed with bold sparks and revitalized
revealing who we really are
beyond the masks and self-imposed scars
and what is that you may want to know?
but that which is above and all that is below
I think this might be one of my favorites of yours. This is really, really good. And not just because your thoughts are just like my thoughts.
The enigma, at least from my perspective, is this: How come I have the ability to ask about enigma's? AND, if I can ask, then why?
Jude, knowing who we are, and accepting it as all we are, are two entirely different things.
Enigma or illusion? There is my confusion. The words color it all endurable.
An otherworldly ocean or an alien sky,
trading light beams with a neat lead poet guy,
sharpening our combined views above on what stars
are the best prospects, and below, the watery graveyards of shipwrecks.
Thanks for letting me put in my piece of the collective puzzle Jude!
All the stanzas apart from the first couplet are bursting with the latent energy and frustration of the "spiritual birth into fulfillment" that so many of us are aching for. The stars are the ancient markers, reminders of "The Plan" and the skies our source of encouragement to keep us seeking "The Grand Design". But the rest that you describe is the travesty of the struggle to aspire upwards against the material backdrop of the "dubbing down", the depression of concealment that has the effect of dulling spiritual expectation. I think I might have to take issue with your premise in your opening words... collective nightmare, maybe!! :)) I would think that the "collective dream" is what we aspire to, rather than the quagmire that presents itself in the here and now... though, if life is a product of our hopes and fears, then guess we are collectively in a season of being frightened out of our wits at the moment, so our dreams are likewise affected! Anyways, not much sense outa me after a glass of two of wine after an otherwise alchoholic drought!! But I'm kinda on the same (wonky!) page meself today... must be the language of damaged lungs struggling for breath and fresh scope... A nice Variation, Jude, thank you! :)) LOL Kate xx
The world is not what it seems because we all have our own separate worlds. We don't branch out, visit other countries and change the lives of just a few people. This is an excellent write and one I needed to read this moring.
Dear Jude,
Indeed the world is not what it seems, we may all choose to view it through rose tinted glasses, or alternatively look within ourselves and in so doing, we are better equipped to find the vast expanse beyond those "collective dreams". Beautiful rhyme and meter and very thought provoking, thank you for another of your wonderful creations Jude.
Warm hugs and love
Excellent rhyme and meter, Jude, Kudos! There is a duality to everything, even ourselves. The world seems to be running amok, like a frightened wild pony, with no one at the reigns. It seems that we even find justification for violating our own moral platform. Yet, we dare to dream of perfecting the world and damn those who take a stand. Most of us look to the next leg of our journey to find perfection and to accomplish all that we have decided are beyond our reach in this lifetime. The world is a crazy place and we must all truly be mad to believe that we can rely on others to make the necessary changes to achieve those things which are our own idealistic goals, yet we see our human self as unable to accomplish them due to lack of belief. Desire without belief equals failure. Beautiful poem. You unravel the enigma, which of course becomes an enigma within itself.
Take care,
Sherry
A searching poem this morning and one that I have to commend you for writing. The world seems to be acting out its own hidden personalities through those which populate it. This sums it all up to me: "revealing who we really are / beyond the masks and self-imposed scars." Excellent!
