~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You stood on the dock
As sailboats streamed out from the harbor
Into the sea
Strong, resilient sails
Bursting with dreams:
Respiring breath of potential skies
These sails,
These forms in motion
Captured thoughts
Decorating the horizon
With the fluttering verve of life
Billowing upon the sparkling waves
Furnishing soul with direction and verve
At one with their masts,
Seeing into the distance of the ocean
From the vessel of mind's embrace
Your body conjoined with the bow
The desire to sail,
The haven of imagination
I must smile with delight, Robert, all sails align!
As love-haunting a piece as I've ever read, your sea-worthiness always stimulates my land-locked wishes.
Brilliant metaphor! "At one with their masts...body conjoined with the bow". You do embrace them, that beauty of speed and form set loose on the wind. The ultimate sense of freedom and adventure into an unknown horizon. We respond and physically feel at one with the boat because that same vehicle is within us as we set sail on our thoughts. Beauty, Jude!
My sentiments, exactly. love sailing, like snow skiing, is, to water skiing; so sailing is to power boating. The lack of the engine droan, and the addition of the awesome sound of hull cutting water.The power coming from nature, rather than combustion, can't be beat! Beautiful write. Art
A beautiful write Jude.
Symbolic as well as real, and bursting with the mysteries of what the intermingling of forces and forms can accomplish together.
I'll go with Taylor's "spinnaker dreams" - a delightful description of such a collage of colour and vibrancy. Sums this up completely, I think. Makes me think of light through stained-glass windows somehow. As ever, your writes make me think in helix strands of combined ambiguity and entwined meanings and interpretations. And you express well that the "haven" of imagination is, of course, the wide open spaces, the reaches of the open sea and the desire to flow out into them, like streams of consciousness. "Your body conjoined with the bow" makes me think of the romance and majesty of the fecund figurehead on the prow as well as ideas, with the mast image as well, of the "straight and true" flight of the arrow from the bow, "furnishing soul with direction and verve", "straight on til morning"! Yep, guess you could say that this gets my mind leaping about all over the place... a smiling dolphin of a write if ever there was one! :)) TY Kate xx
I find your verses soaringly (sp?) symbolic, Jude. They make me feel like flying above the sailboats while singing with the wind. Thank you! Love and peace to you,
If only we could meld our spirts with different modes of transportation
be it object or animal
imagine the distance we could cover
but then again, we can travel thru the magic in our hearts
and souls
nice ideas you give
I'm hearing those sails a-fluttering in that breeeze and everything is good. With all due respect to Ch'erie de Perrott, maybe she could write her own poem and insert what she wanted in it.
I agree with Fee, ( as a not so old sailor) LOL, this captured my heart immediately!
But.. as a Woman I see some depth unrelated to sailing here...
Frankly I'd rather take the Yacht out in a squall, heel her right over in 10'waves and be totally thrilled outa my skull, then face mundane suburban life.
Ty for the visual..
"Decorating the horizon
With the fluttering verve of life..."
"Seeing into the distance of the ocean
From the vessel of your mind ..."
"The haven of imagination" must be full of techni-color and wind filled spinnaker dreams. It took me to that dock and images of regattas of the mind...
