~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eons have passed
Since the sun hesitated
To shine on your face
And quench your acidic smile
With the refreshing
Rain from a cloudless sky
Day after day
You unconsciously declared
To be the sole victor
Of your own credibility
And resurrected a forged deity
You deemed
As the will of the heavens
I listened
To the diatribe of fabricated angels
Sitting upon your shoulder
And inhaled
The flames of paradise
And exhaled
The smoke of a hellish embrace
All in the name
Of love’s divine interaction
You attempted to persuade me
With the lure of some benevolent galaxy
Taunting me with denial
Designed as a clandestine
Proviso of faithfulness
Your urge to betray me
Followed me around
Until it was much too unbearable
To allow the self-filling prophecy to prevail
So I walked away
From the cross you bear
Finally liberated from your Judas kiss
Smokin!! Another sulphurous exorcism of pent-up and raw emotions. Perversely makes me think of the old musical "South Pacific" and the song "I'm gonna wash that (wo)man right out of my hair!"... Could take a wee while with yours!! :)) Perhaps you better get off to Hawaii... Sounds like you have bin entertaining that Succubus agin - hope she didn't cost you 30 pieces of silver, neither! Jude, I commend you for having the fortitude to kiss off this person. It isn't easy extricating oneself from an evil person. It would be one thing if they were a spirit or a sprite, but a human? Achhhh, worst form of evil in the universe. LOL...
Excellently composed poetry. It truly reflects inner strength. ~ Sara
D***! "I'm free now baby/I'm free from your spell/the thrill is gone..." Bittersweet addiction finally expelled from the veins. But we do learn so much about ourselves and the drug that entices us. We walk away with that knowledge and resolve. You're a straight-shooter!
And, if I had a buck for every Judas kiss I ever had planted on me, hey I wouldnt be trying to even get a sniff at being a famous poet lol.
Whew!!! This seems to cover a lot of ground when read literally, and it also seems to depict the anger that we sometimes feel when we finally distance ourselves from someone who once had a powerful hold on us. Such a delicious and pretty poison they were. I could write a book on "What in the hell was I thinking and what did I ever see in that guy, how could I have been so foolish or so shallow?" Some people have an uncanny knack at appealing to all of our dreams of wishful thinking. They give credibility to things that we thought we were foolish for secretly believing in. Looking back with 20/20 vision, I know that I should have never allowed anyone else to captain my ship. When we allow someone else to take charge of our lives and/or our thoughts, we lose not only that time from our life but we lose our self-respect as well. Powerful and astute poetry, Jude.
Take care,
Sherry
Deja Vu Jude...
"Taunting me with denial
The courage to walk away from someone like this requires strength and conviction...self-revelation. Reclaim your life and fresh air.
One heck of a powerful write ...so many of us have experienced this kind of relationship.
Love,
Taylor~
I agree with Nordette,this could be read in several ways. I think it could also depict one of your own personality traits that we all have to deal with when needing to cut away the wheat from the chaff. Whatever,it is damn fine poetry!
I can almost hear you spewing this out. Lots of passion here. It seems as if you are sick and tired of hearing someone's dogmatic beliefs and you just have to get away from it. Terrific write, Jude.
Jude! Have we been drinking from each other's water bottles again. ;-) Excellent, Shaman. Fat with blood of slashed ego. This poem can be read several ways. Spiritual disillusionment, the destruction of romantic illusions formerly veiling a false soul mate, disappointment in an icon, judging someone misunderstood who made you feel misunderstood, or even somebody's read too much into the DaVinci Code and now, newly conditioned, vomits up his traditions. Rocket writing, man. Sometimes the more interpretations the better for the reader. ~~Nordette
Powerfully emotive write for me personally Jude!
Yes, there are those times when enough is enough, no matter how we wish it otherwise. Instead of planting the seeds and letting them grow or die at their own rate, too many try to forcefully proselytise too many into those ethereal regions that are shrouded in controversy.
If what we share with one another is not done in love and wisdom, death always somehow creeps in and destroys it.
Good job poet!
You are always one that makes me think!
this one has a magnetic force all its own, Jude. who hasn't encountered a Judas who would lure us away from our own truth / mission and who stands neck-deep in his or her own delusions and denial of all but clinging to a false cross and thinking he will save. walking away is the only option and, in my experience, it's never easy and always sad. Jude, it takes Uncommon strength, to do the "right" thing, which is almost always the hard thing. Just like Jesus - and the original Judas-Kiss...Jesus STILL went to the Cross. It's Uncommon, how you knew, which cross...was yours, NOT to bear! There you go again, Master of Enigma! I applaud your gift, my Friend.
