~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m relaxing on the sand
Watching beach beauties stroll across the shore
Lifeguards are hoisted
Under the cover of large orange umbrellas
Focusing on swimmers frolicking in the waves
I am lounging in a gala of insignificance
Wondering about the greater historic criterion of a country
I am surrounded by hot dogs, hamburgers and beer
Being consumed by the dozens
As shapely breasts, contoured muscles,
Bouncing bottoms
Dance to congas, guitars and marimbas
I lounge in a gala of irrelevance
For there is something much greater going down
It is the essence of freedom
I celebrate this Independence Day
Tanning under a common sun
Not taking anything for granted
Identifying with my historic heritage
When the stars and stripes began
Anticipating colored bursts of sparkling smoke
Exploding in the heat of night
Robert you said,
'I am surrounded by hot dogs, hamburgers and beer'
Some people are surrounded by Walls, Tanks, Apaches and American Vetos. Ever wondered about?
Poem is well written, I am glad I stopped by to read this,
Were they topless? Most are here...
Glad you enjoyed the memories of booting our butts...
Most folk I spoke to thought it was thanksgiving over there..
We don't celebrate anything like that. Guess we better lose a war then win, so we can have hot dogs, and a day out...
Jude, I love your style...you always hit both sides equally... 'Excellence in Balance' is your real middle name!
And I ditto Peter; you hit on the "something precious and sacred"............May America continue to exist in freedom!
Thanks for helping her out, Jude Blessings, rhonda
The day and the celebration of those around you with bikini's and burgers on the beach in bash are such a contradiction to the musings of your mind and the world around you in consideration of the history and meaning of the day...when in truth, it's all about freedom, isn't it?
"I lounge in a gala of irrelevance
This is terrific, Jude...the beach agrees with you.
This is the day to taste all that freedom has to offer and to know that there is still more that we have not yet discovered. This holiday carries with it a unique spiritual essence, as the souls of all who have gone before us, who believed in liberty, frolic with us in the summer sun. This is a soul lifting poem, Jude with tangible images. I could smell the mustard on those hotdogs. Happy 4th of July to you.
Take care,
Sherry
You hit on the essence of Independence Day
Freedom...
And there are those who would deny us this precious and sacred commodity..
