~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This world is really getting to my caw
All its fanatical fantasies,
Extremist mythologies,
Convoluted decrees of intolerance
All its border discrepancies,
Religious righteousness,
Political agendas
And downright one-upmanship
Is about to drive me to the madhouse
Who would ever think
As one looks upon this cool blue planet
From the depths of space,
Such a large body of small creatures
Could have such a hatred for each other,
Could have such malaise with its prospective purpose,
Could surface such inner turmoil
In the light of its own collective being?
Who could ever ponder
The historical differences,
The blood lust,
The distorted methodology of maniacal dreamers,
The psychopaths,
The megalomaniac leaders,
The herding instinct of finger pointers,
Zealots and placid policy makers
All tearing out the heart of mankind
So that it has ceased to recognize its own soul
And I, an inconsequential poet
On the outskirts of its atmospheric corral
Could allow myself to be so raveled up in its design
You know for some reason when I first joined Authorsden years ago ... I didn't like you. After all of this time I can't figure out why I didn't like you and I can't remember if I thought your poetry was bad but ... I was sitting here today and thinking that, after all of your kind (or not so kind) reviews on my site, I owe you one. So let me say that, while your poetry is vastly different from mine, I sincerely enjoyed this one, technically as well as the subject matter. You're not bad, kid. I'm glad I stopped by.
Amen and 3 Hail Mary's! Do you suppose the water is drugged or did someone just take a good fine pi$$ in it?
Damn fine way of puttin' it too.
A time to unravel. Our lizard brain defeats reason and the territorial imperative takes over. Time to end the madness.
You are not alone. We will watch the blue planet turn golden brown together.
There is good and evil in every fiber of humanity. Unfortunately, it seems evil maybe winning. Wonderful write!
Bravo! What has me concerned is its affect on my psyche. I'm ready to put on a uniform, pick up a gun and go kill these lunatics. But then that would make me one of them. I have a feeling that Hitler's atrocities are going to look pale in comparison with what the Islamic extremists have planned for the world. It is heart-breaking knowing what is to come. I don't think there is a solution. All we do is give ourselves time. All we do is put off the inevitable. Hopefully, after a cataclysmic event, the planets survivors will be so shocked that they will find a way to stop the hate, stop the violence and work toward a safer, happier, more loving Earth.
I think some "inconsequential poet" once expressed his antidote thus:
"When all the elements
of this fallen Paradise
seem to bounce off your head,
or hit you hard in the groin
and cloven-footed, horrid monsters
come crawling from the doom
like a mad montage,
like a nightmare running wild...
Well, this is the Asylum, Baby;
this is the land where you have to be
both Patient and Analyst,
Actor and Audience.
It's up to you to perform well on stage,
it's up to you to transcend the external settings,
it's up to you to break through dreams revolving doors."
... it may have been 3 decades ago, but never more relevant, surely??
...Who'da thought it, but it is so... and it would seem that you have here your own remedy. Perhaps the world changes little or much in thirty years, but each of us has our own methodology with which to tabulate and deal with external circumstances according to our own person and temperament; we just bide own right time to interact and react.
... So... if not now... when?!! :))
Comprehensive summation, Monseigneur le Maverick
It is impossible not to be touched by what is happening around us. this touches on the gut of what drives us nuts. Wish I could be close enough to give you a hug and then bring you to the park I sit in that gives me something to smile about. BTW I would also let you scream......screaming is healthy when the world is acting nutty.
Unfortunately, whether we like to admit it or not Jude, we are all players in this insidious and demented soap opera unraveling on this planetary stage. We might not adhere to its violent atrocities and unfathomable policies, but we all have our parts to play.
I loved this write. The poet standing outside the atmosphere and gazing upon a perfectly pristine looking planet and shaking his head in disgust.
A great image of the disgruntled thinker and artist. We are in times now where tomorrow has too much trepidation and darkness attached to it.
In fraternity ...
the din of the madness has caused us to miss the call of the soul, our collective home and our individual notes so essential to the whole of harmony. the craziness does kinda make you want to fly away home, huh? a whirlwind of words and thoughts that captures the insanity well, Jude.
This encompasses perfectly so much of what is wrong with those that misuse power, money and weaponry, ...their blatant arrogance sadly will only lead to more suffering on this planet. I, for one, find nothing inconsequential regarding this work...superb statement. Panda :)
Makes one truly wonder about the so called 'inherent goodness' of mankind. And it makes one wonder what any celestial observers must think of us if they are gazing down on this blue planet from above.
A perspicacious write, Jude; heartfelt and tragically on point.
The ancient Hindu teaching of disassociation, however enduringly applicable, is excruciating to apply when one gives a damn... I, for one, will struggle with it for the remainder of my inconsequential days on this beloved planet Earth.
Brilliant prose. Now, may I respectfully suggest a stiff shot of Cuervo Tequila Oro with an icy cold Corona, before carrying on?
Peace,
All of these things you mention is the carrot that makes the donkey go! I will wait for my grain that awaits me at the end of the maze! When the donkey and the carrot are trotted out, the design grows new roots. In spite of the asses plodding after their carrots, the Atmospheric Corral, an elaborate maze of intelligence remains the more dependable and lasting statement. It all comes out in the corral as motivation and morale, Jude...
Join the crowd, Sir Robert, as I think we all, since we are living here on this inconsequential little blue planet, cannot afford nor allow ourselves to not pay any attention to its woes...even me, who has for as long as I can remember tried to ignore the stupidity of his fellow man, cannot with times and life going in the direction it is headed, take any chances with future happenings as I try to keep somewhat in touch of late...E
