A broken branch rests upon the earth
Fallen from a sturdy tree
Towering above me
The power of the wind
Swayed it back and forth
And so it broke away
From the trunk of its design
Where leaves have grown and fallen
From the bough of countless seasons
It almost fell on my head
You teased, “Maybe it should have hit you
And knocked some sense into you”
I took this walk today
About the meadows of sorrow and absent hope
Trying to cope with her no longer being there
And the loss of our mirror images
Perhaps you right,
Maybe I have nothing to gain in my remorse
And its time to rebuild
And grow new limbs
Like the tree before me
But then again how can I ever forget her reassuring presence?
Trees have power to regenerate themselves by recovering lost branches and leaves. They also communicate incase there is some danger looming around such a insects. But it must have its roots firmly fixed in the soil otherwise every effort to keep it alive will be a waste. Love is like that, Jude. Excellent poetry.
Truly exquisite Jude!
Touched deeply by beautiful love...
Fortunately, you never need forget her presence for she is apart of you; her is essence has become you...
Shine her light ... brilliantly, within your own!
To the Tree of Life!
Remember the roots of the tree, the one's that only allowed it only to sway, hold firm...and was but a branch that broke away...significant arm more weighty than the leaf or twig. But the tree stood tall without the missing piece and will heal and nurture the potential of new branch remembering where the one lost once grew...but trees don't cry like humans do...

Funny... I have been composing in my head over a few weeks a short story about two forest trees who strive to interlink their branches and roots... but it takes a storm to bring them together through bringing them both down and, subsequently, their roots grow deeper and their foliage more dense and strong, giving shelter to birds and beasts on the ground instead of above... A digression, I'm sorry, but this stirs memories of Bound by the Winds of Time so much... it makes me wonder if that was in itself a 9/11 (or fallout from it) poem? Seems in this instance like the broken branch of the precision of purpose has finally fallen and the glimmer of salvation has been lost - at least, sadly, in terms of this particular relationship. Remorse, implying some kind of responsibility or culpability is perhaps certainly unhelpful if there is not the possibility to rebuild. But her "reassuring presence" that has so far endured will be with you to cause the sap to rise in regeneration and will be the fluid mortar that cements the stones as the fabric of the future arises. She will be ever-present with you as that "open window of escape", I'm sure! :)) Delightful in its guilessness and vulnerability. Honestly touching without emotionalism - which is stoic, given the expression of the loss of one who is/was to you as your own limbs, your other half, perhaps. Tenderly, written, Jude. K xx

There is a sadness in this that touches me deeply. I have gone through the steps of loss many times :-( It never hurts to look back but we must keep going forward. The world is full of surprises and often in the most unlikely situtions. Take your clue from the tree :-)
Jude, intrinsic to our existence, the mended tree usually bears the most excellent fruit...as you have perfectly proven, once again, inside your own uncommon gift. Thank God, you branched out!
"But then again how can I ever forget her reassuring presence?"
You don't! Your loss is tempered, yet not forgotten, as you grow new branches of life, that spread out and upward in today's sunlight!Great write, Robert!
There are many thinks in nature that we can relate to...and it's amazing how limp it can make us feel...like losing a limb...you lose your balance in life!!
There is a feeling of harmony with this romance...even humor. I can feel how your heart pines. The nature aspect is pictorial and you loved then as your spirit soared.
Yes this poem says so much. Perhaps it is best that not just the limb be removed but completely removed from the tree. Sometimes even the smallest connection limbs still have to a tree are enough to make them straggle on painfully to survive for a long long time.
Peace.love, and blessings are sent to you and yours. Keep forging ahead Jude. Our strength is increased with each passing day that we strive to heal. <Mikii>
Yes, forge ahead, you havent got your feet in cement, ( like some of us) so go forth, and enjoy.
Great write

Any occasion in our life can bring on us a bit of contraversity. The worst scenario is that you want to forge ahead but cannot forget. Can anyone? Forge ahead you must. Victor
It is still there in your heart Robert, the tree, with all its branches-unbroken.It is.
Loss is awful but we can only believe 'they' (loved ones) are
still with us ,if only in our hearts, that is the one place the branches can't fall.I love your sad but beautiful poem.
Love and best wishes always to you and yours

Norse Nidhogg, the Dread Biter lies coiled around the roots of the Tree of Life, threatening to devour the foundations of the world. The cosmic snake symbolizes rebirth. Family members, completely unaware with no sufficient time to make farewells and take tentative last looks before death. The Tree of Life is your symbolic last look, heroic therapy treatment to regeneration, Jude...
This is the most unique 9-11 poem I have ever read, Jude. She was such a part of your life, how could you ever forget her, and to have watched her be ravaged the way that she was, it would take a thousand lifetimes and an universe of tears to heal that kind of pain. Add the daily reminders that she is no longer with you, and you have a scar that will just never get the opportunity to heal. Gorgeous poem!
Take care,
Sherry

Powerful sentiments..Glorious vision you always share...Great to see your works again!!!
If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
The songs and art in this book are about our collective emergence after the pandemic and trauma of the last few years - comprised of 5 collections: World as Refuge, Where We Live, In Our Hands, Rhythms of Change and What We See & Sow.
