Mirrored Heart

Ah, the pounding of a mirrored heart
Broken into sharp and expressionless pieces

Peering into fleeing eyes

Staring into the reflection of a stream
Wandering through meadows of colorless landscapes

The ricochet of sole footsteps
Ascending a spiral staircase
To the quiet of an empty room
Where the echo of distant imaginings dwell

The lone reflection every morning brings
Into the mirror as you wake from dreams

The shower steam filling the bathroom
Forming teardrops
Across the contours of your cheeks

The rippled image staring into the coffee pot
As the cold daybreak
Warms up the usual brew
Of faraway thoughts
And inaccessible moods
You have cut me off from

Your mirrored heart will remain shattered
In shards you refuse to remove
From your emotion’s skin

Until you once again uncover that smile
Hidden deep inside you

The one I use to know
The one I still continue to pray for

Blimey... the waking, the steam and the cheeks!!! :)) Another beautiful mirror-write... possibly to self and other. Whatever. The sense of co-dependence is strong. Fabulous and cinematic imagery, really evocative and deeply artistic. Like a French film. Love the moodiness here.

Think the "tide pulling back on itself" down here in Dorset has DEFINITELY retrieved MY smile from the depths of the seabed at long, long last! :)) My tide of life is turning as I sail on the crest of the wave... Surf's up! LOL Kusp K xx

I saw the whole scene through your words. Even saw him lean both hands on the shower wall as the steam rose, his head lowered. Great piece!

Ah ... the deep and unfathomable, at times, rivers of melancholy that can grip us.

This piece, Robert, is heavily infused with the imagery and essences of those "impossible to understand" forces that sometimes change our personalities and drive us away from everything around us.

The heart of a Poet you do possess richly in the penning of this exquisite piece.

You have captured the essence of pain in watching someone you care deeply about suffer, whether from pain of love or physical pain it is hard not to be able to fix what is wrong and hard to sit on the sidelines waiting and hoping for time to heal. Well presented though no doubt painful to write old friend.

Jude,

This reminded me much of the saying, "we are laughing on the outside but crying on the inside." Happiness is definitely a state of mind my friend. Peace Always, Paul.

The victim of a nonsmile needs nurturance and gentle nudging around the heart from the poet. The gradual reawakening of passion can be found by coalescing the magic words "I need you," from your poem Words of Necessity, with Mirrored Heart...
