Under the shade of a large oak tree
Autumn leaves gently dance down
All around our bodies

Covering a blanket
With a magnificent array
Of colorful shapes and colors

I reach over to a bowl of fruit
And offer you an apple

As you bite into shinny red surface
The lusciously crisp sound
Of its juicy essence
Echoes from within your salacious smile

I joke this scene reminds me
Of the Garden of Eden
When Eve offers Adam
A taste of the forbidden fruit

And you jest,
“Well we’re sitting beside the Tree of Knowledge.
Do you think a serpent is waiting
In the bush?”

Beaming I say,
“Well, I don’t know if the serpent is really all that clever
But when its body stretches out,
I’m sure that’s precisely where he’ll be”
