Nature's Way

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wandering across virgin snow
Into an apple grove
To the frozen ridge of a lake
Sporadic, piercing rays of sunlight
Purge through inauspicious clouds
Sparkling upon the lake’s mired heart
Her memory
Reflects off the viscous tarn of semi-frozen images
Set in motion by branches
Snapping together by the wind
Sucking up my thoughts into a sullen symphony
Of brooding emotions and forgone dreams
Strange, how death has no recourse
Never to be denied or to be deprived of
Yet the hoot of an owl
Perched upon a lone oak tree
Reminds me to commemorate its course
Returning me to nature’s way
A Currier & Ives decorator plate hangs just in time for the Holidays with this scene you have written Nature's Way. That sawtooth picture hangar is strong as these words to hang forever on your deserving wall of poetry, Jude...Blessed Be...Happy Holidays...
I can well relate to your words here in the midst of a winter scene which is infused with powerful images and deep introspection. I love the last line; it serves to bring the reader back into the reality and recognizing the fact that death lies within the beauty of nature is a kind of reconciliation for the soul -a poetic commemoration. Outstanding write!
Such acute atmosphere that conjures the icy emotional chill so very well. Extremes of temperature can both induce crystal clarity and opaque mental fog. Deathly thoughts likewise. But associated grief and mourning are paths to be walked that have no short-cuts; it is a necessary journey once started upon. Normally, I would likewise associate the owl with a sense of the spectral but, for some reason here, in great contrast to the scene depicted, I get a tremendous sense of heat from its saucer-like, glowing yellow-green eyes; it's dense and downy plummage and the warm wisdom of its redirecting hoot, calling you back, showing you the way. Healing and soothing in its holistic approach. Nature's Way sure is the best! TY K xx
As usual, Jude, these are so very expressive in the most poetic
images. I was delighted to have checked in this morning, to the DEN, and found this treat.
Very true, spiritual lesson. I like this poem on acceptance of natural law and how you've couched it in nature's whisperings.
Sporadic, piercing rays of sunlight
Purge through inauspicious clouds
Sparkling upon the lake’s mired heart
Really like the clear imagery in those lines. :-)
Thank you, Jude, for this poem and for your kindness and support. ~~Nordette
We paint our pictures in , be they of Summer with flowers in bloom or in the Winters sullen gloom, we have that choice to make. And death leads us to another realm where our spirits entertain our choice.
That's the way it goes. We are born and we die. But for those who believe death has no sting really for it is but a passage to another more beautiful eternity. An excellent trend of thought with great choice of words. Victor
Jude, you are so on with this write. Wheras most people hate the ice and snow and prefer to do their walking in the summer, I enjoy the magic kingdom of the forest when pained in shades of white and crystal. As your poem reflects the winter and mother nature have a way of reminding us how we play a part in the scheme of things and even death is a part of that grand scheme.
