Beneath the soul of starving footsteps
Scattering across the carcass of city streets
The mind coats the sidewalk
With the crust of its own unrest
The offended spirit
Lodged between concrete cracks of creative tremors
Adheres to the tumor of its own special turmoil
Spinning madly
Directed by impulse to its inspired impetus
Anxious organisms are released
From the porous psyche of steamy sewer covers
Rusty water pipes
And homeless hungry dreams
Here, poetry is etched upon the pavement
For only the tired to see
Yet for the entire world to feel
Tar encrusted dreams rise from the feather quill elevated into airy flotation looking down upon the pavement where multitudes of tired souls/soles have walked lifting off residue in the recycling of poetry sharing the creative etchings for all dreamers in league with the spirits...you recycled these lines from the place I just described, Jude...a poet who can take the tired, corrupt world and pen a new, pristine blueprint...
So graphic I can almost smell it! Even mania-driven angst is highly creative and productive, it seems. We know that from the world's most artistic "geniuses" and the vast body of work which they leave behind them - often well before an untimely end. We are indebted to many of them and the richer for their pains. Makes me think how fame or notoriety is often only accredited post-humously, yet, even while we have their "fevers" with us while they live, even if we don't understand them, we can gain something of their worldview through the cracks in the street. All karma, both good and bad, entropies into the collective experience, but it often takes only the seriously thoughtful or distracted to be able to penetrate its meaning. You have chewed this one right down to the bone, Jude, and extracted all the juices. TY K xx
Your words in this beautiful view of your poetic thoughts
Are very painful as I read each line
My heart was pounding and my eyes filled with tears
you paint a perfect picture of city streets and the homeless
And hungry people in this world
Excellent message within this outstanding write
Excellent choice of words and emotions
Love and Peace To You..Morning Star
The first line tore at my senses like a sharpened Kukri Robert.
The most powerful line I've read today! In this readers mind, you paint powerful allegoric imagery of city streets as the soul and heart of the writer.
And from those cracks in the pavement rises an almost unbearable feeling of anguish, that seems to grab us by the ankles, rooting us up to the painting and not letting go. The feeling becomes the vision, impossible to ignore. What can I say, except that this strikes me as a poetic masterpiece!

This is life and death poetry making a social statement at it's very best. "Here poetry is etched upon the pavement." with lines such as this you have captured the heat of the city.
I believe this is brilliant Jude. Terrrific word choices, caustic imagery, and emotionally boiling. Love the way you carry out the theme of pavement in detail...very effective...energy zapping write.

Taylor

Please tell me if my interpretation is correct: a starved person, even if surrounded by ugliness can still have poetry in his heart and write it down for all to see, but only those who feel like him can understand that poetry. Whether I'm right or wrong, you do delve deep into the souls of men. Victor
I enjoy the creative sparks that fly in my head after reading your works~ this one being very scintillated, full of inspiring silence, necessary for the quill of it all!

Robert, I know that I have said this before, but I must say it again. Your poetry is the feeling of the true poet’s soul. Your work always shines. Thanks for all the great reads and thoughts of inspiration.

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
