~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i am walking
walking in a deep sleep
everyday walking
talking to your memory
revisiting the passageway
of our dream
the one I remember
before you vanished
in a second
into vapor
my hands grasping
the contours
of your phantom
a dream i can never seem
to get hold of
yet witness every night
in depths of darkness
in the haze of being born
when midnight
transforms our bodies
once again i watch you leave
your face in my mind’s mirror
looking back at me
waving good-bye
as i begin to say hello
WHEW!
There is a slice of melancholic reality in this that makes me shudder Robert. We are so inter-twined with others, on so many levels. And so often what didn't work, or where we failed, comes back to haunt us in the most magnificent ways.
I agree with Sir Peter ... impressive and moving write. Quite evocative for me.
Repetitions sound like echoing footsteps falling noiselessly, one foot in front of the other, through each long, dark night of the soul and upon every sunlight sidestreet. Alexandra took the words right out of my mouth, and yes, immediately felt "mother-loss" and the ongoing desire for the elusive synchronicity that is as shapeshifting clutched shadows. Liquid streams of consciousness here. My literalist mind also says that there is a suggestion of complicity and ambivalence in the fact that "she" had time to "wave goodbye", although you say she disappeared instantaneously... that to me suggests feelings of guilt, that the Voice might have prevented her going in some way if s/he had acted, endorsed by the "reticence" of "i begin to say hello" - slowness suggested here. Well, for what it's worth, it's just another layer of interpretation to play with. You know me... dolphin with a ball! Unless, of course, it's your "feminine self" again, from your House of See Through Mirrors! :))
Hold on to this dream, Robert. 'Tho sad, the poem generates a tie forever binding; a solace for your need. The last lines are so telling for many of us...beautifully penned!
"Womb Walker" I categorize this Deep Sleep. There is a particular place, a place known where one negotiates the return in spirit of a loved one, the womb-grave of the Neolithic burial mound at Bryn Celli Ddu, Wales where the idea of life being reborn from the dead within the ground is reflected in the vagina-like opening. Deep Sleep is symbolic reliving of the descent and return of divinity transforms itself, thrice blessed are the mortals who have seen these rites, you be amongst them, Jude...
Oh Jude...the loss of your mother, again, huh?
The beginning of one...the end of another...and the Alpha & Omega, as the bridge between you.
I am so sorry for the pain you bear..but that fire of unanswered questions, has seared you poetry with indelible genius..she left you with an amazing gift.
May The LORD ease your longing..
A deep study, ever unfinished, of an also seemingly forever elusive synchronicity which, as it is deeply sought, takes likewise elusive contours... and creates, in the mind, shifting silhouettes, shadows, recognizable, at moments, as those of the mother dying and her child being born, and then, suddenly, as those of love about to begin when love is about to end. Remarkable poetry, dear Jude.
I am sure that this is not a real or present situation of yours, eeven if perhaps you felt such an emotion sometime. We all do. It is very rare to marry the first girl you go out with (or the first boy). So you portray feelings of parting very detailed. Excellent poem. Victor
I'm not taking this that serious Robert, it's a great poem. Some people always try to relate our work to us personally when most of the time the poets is just creating verse. As poets we do write verse that might be personal related to some of our pain or bliss but it could also be just created verse like an artist painting a scene. Here your brush worked with your paints
"deep sleep" woke me up to an experience quite similar to this I've been grappling with for months in "dreams" (the real life?)... the description of a dream out of grasp yet always playing on the screen of our innermost soul consciousness really nails it. also loved the image of the face looking back in mirror of mind. thanks, Jude. now, gotta go see what deep sleep brings me tonight. catch you later, Dawn
