~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The illusionist vanishes from sight
Appearing over stage
Under moonlight
Transforms a flower into mist
And rematerializes its petals
Into a hardened fist
The dreamer hungers for peace
Searches the world over
For a new landlord and lease
Combats the deep offerings of night
Foraging hope’s craving
For the lure of universal light
The magician
Levitates midair
Over the crowd who wonder and stare
Some ask, “Is it trick or is it real?”
The reality of the matter
Is the magic you feel
Interesting choice of new Biog pic, Jude... perhaps that's why Anita referred to you as Merlin!?? Looks like you are causing little yellow balls to be suspended mid-air! :)) Somehow made me think of Tom Paine and The Age of Reason (or Rage?!) and The Rights of Man.
And it seems he was another who called into question all that would subjugate and sublimate our primieval instincts and joys, thereby lessening our capacity for experience on all of our sensorial levels. Perhaps it was fitting that he was born the son of a corset-maker in Norfolk before meeting Benjamin Franklin and influencing affairs on your side of the Pond!
... As this poem would appear to demonstrate, often it is the effect achieved that is more to be concerned about than the means whereby it is able to be experienced. Doubtless, some illusionists are bent on bad intent; some dreamers are following the trail to a new Woodstock and gathering others along the way; and still others are just out to stretch the mind, imagination in the ways of possibility, design and potential, causing a grand awakening. And still others, I guess, are just plain having fun and doing their own thing. Whatever. It is up to us to either accept what is offered or to reject it and what is produced within each one of us is a result controlled by us, not them...
Just thought I'd try and throw a little something different into the black top hat.... :)) Kate xx
We all create our realities, as best we can, out of illusions, be they our own or created by someone else. Perhaps it is better to close our eyes and feel the magic that comes from within.
Some say the power of the mind can do anything. If you never believe you can do anything, you will do nothing.
You have to be able to accept the possibility of magic as reality before it can be percieved as real. And you have to truely belive it IS real before it actually becomes real.
Good write!
Enjoyed this very much Jude, I couldn't help but think of the all mighty power of God, and how even the smallest things are miraculous to man...some may not see it as God's powers but supernatural...I love the last line two lines as many of the other reviewers have stated;
The reality of the matter
Is the magic you feel
I believe that the magic we feel is His divine spirit leading us and helping us to make the most of the life that He gave us.
Fantastic write my friend,
Ahh how true, Jude! Life is pretty much about the illusions we buy into and those that make us feel positive about life in general. The magician/illusionist captivates us and like a puzzle, intrigues us regarding the solution. Very cool poem. Your Rock, Jude!
This poem really is beautiful in how it examines the many facets of human perception. There is magic in the way people see various places and things. To an innocent child anything may appear to be magical. For an adult to perceive everything in this way gives deeper meaning to life. Fireflies on a warm summer night comes to mind. Beautiful
This is an interesting postulation Robert that one could debate for hours.
I guess one of the challenges, in this, is being able to differentiate between what is real, and what is illusion. If we choose to embrace the illusion, because it makes us feel a momentary sense of magic, do we also become an illusion?
