~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(the fever swells)
Stretched out
On quilted covers of an unkempt bed
Barmy dream:
A Cyclops is rummaging through burning bushes
Converging upon the impulsive longings
Of balding gargoyles
In onyx garb
Standing erect, masturbating
Among the cinders and ashes,
Reciting angst-ridden doggerel
Are their words archetypal, anal,
Impulsive or fetal?
Doesn’t really matter
Staring out the window
Growing fever magnolias
In treetops of thoughtless vapor
Winter is taking its toll.
Monochrome petals
Invade me
A few hours sleep-
The alarm tolls
Brain bats fly feverishly
Across the bloody, wanton sky
I wake up feeling like I’m being followed
Obsessive eyes thirsting
To drink me
Very fine indeed--dream as metaphorical editorial on both the mindless and mindful malice operating at will in the modern global village. Seems to this reader like a poem that steps beyond surrealism becasue so much of its substance can serve as descriptive of many people's conscious attitudes and much of the --my apologies here-- bureaucratic bullshit that doses out chaos on a regular basis.
... Sounds like cabin fever to me. Winter is taking its toll and there is the sense of being oppressed by the interference of others crossing your path and meddling in your thought processes when you are busy trying to unravel something important yourself. Love the Cyclops (single-minded)rummaging through burning bushes (trying to hear the voice of God, seek meaning) which gives the idea of intense concentration. And the hot-house fevered incubation of monochrome, colourless petals. There seems to be the dissatisfaction of both a lack of coming together of things in the own Voice's mind, coupled with the frustration of being leeched by suckers from preying minds on the other. There is much pace to this, giving a sense of being sweated. Quite a change from your normal laid-back tone. But the flow is as unforced as ever. Bit of an Alice write, with the key to the door to the garden seemingly out of reach... A bad-hair day with too many people in it! :))
First of all...dang, I couldn't resist diving into this title! Oh my, I feel like I've been on an up close and personal midnight oil tour of Notre Dame with every feindish deity grabbing at me and shouting...spinning , fever pitched in a dream I struggle to wake myself from. ...and when I am awake, I cannot whake the dream...exhausted and needing sleep they robbed from me, I am afraid to fall asleep again and succomb to the depths of winter. This is just incredible and I am blown away by the visuals. Powerful and brilliant, Jude...I'm sleeples as it is and now I'm in big vapid trouble!
Love,
Taylor
Interesting how fever-driven dreams mold perception, Jude... Sounds like a wild ride herein. "Obsessive eyes thirsting to drink me,"-- Yikes! ;-}
An engaging, stimulating write, Poet. Now get well soon; winter will pass & those bats will take cover.
Peace and Blessings,
Carolyn
Wow! What powerful imagery in this write...I had many emotions and thoughts throughout while reading this creative and inspired write...a bit gothic and midevil. The cyclops reminded me of Greek mythology...outstanding write, thought provoking! Enjoyed!
Your break-out occult poem! Branching off from mainstream to Medieval Cabbalism...turnips stained black and pseudo-wafers! Written from the glyph, The Tree of Life. Meditation and vestiges of magical power from the shaman's ejaculatory quill...Growing Fever Magnolias in Peripheral Longings of Unkempt Dreams is the poetic amulet Forese wears around his neck in communion with higher Truth...
