Cold White Caress

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not long ago, your eyes were like twin rubies
Mined from a fertile quarry
Of unblemished gems
Where miner’s sweat
Reflected the midday sun
As it reached over the mountains
Settling on a pristine horizon
And constellations revealed flickering jewels
Through the window of my heart and soul
One day, while jogging through the snow
Your heart simply exploded
Leaving you face-first in a drift
As I turned you over, my first sight
Was that of a deep crimson sparkle
And two beads of blood
Superimposed on the cold white caress
Whatever the season, such passion stays, superimposing itself irrespective of the harshness of terrain or fertility of landscape. Such zest for life neither feels the bitter bite of winter nor the drought of desert winds. Only the ceaseless flow of energy that can be so powerful that it does indeed spontaneously combust. Uncanny, but on the back of your Magnolia write, this makes me think of Gardenias, my very favourite plant of the Madder or Rubia genus, whose flowers are of course, virgin white and heavenly fragrant, but whose roots afford a brilliant red dye that is almost blood-like, I think. And you are a miner of those gems, whether they be embedded in sweated soil or librerally scattered on sodden snow. Penetrating write, Jude. TY Kate xx
All that warm, colourful, precious gemmed beauty brought to an abrupt end in a cold, lifeless blanket of starch white.
When love suddenly dies and we see no reason why, the freeze-out that we receive can leave us wondering whatever could have gone so very wrong. Your poem is so vividly rich with images that the reader is right there beside you throughout the experience.
Take care,
Sherry
A star ruby, optical phenomenon of asterism, Cold White Caress cuts a cabochon. Pigeon's blood...ruby symbolizes passionate love. Can it be resucitated should it die? Yes, by heating it to 1800C to turn it into a deeper shade of red...
Vivid is the first thing that comes to mind when looking for an adjective to describe this poem, the brilliance of red on white like a martyrers flag is a resounding slap in the dullness of day to day living.
