~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Buried my ashes in this earth
Buried them deep so the wind could not be felt
From time past until now
I accommodated those who came close to me
And those yet to be met,
I know would aspire to tether me
Or misconstrue my affection
Muddling the moods
My heart reveals
Longing to savor my flesh
And lope though valleys
Where my shadow plays
Surrounded by a wounded light
And all, in spite of me
Did it ever matter, I never asked for anything?
Or tried to make best of an impossible situation?
I know I am rhetorical and repetitious at times
Like I said, in spite of me
The light in me
Is on the far side of the moon,
Or did I say that?
I reiterate,
I buried myself in this earth
Where my ashes wait
Without me
And for no one
It's a good thing to often be buried so deeply that we can't hear the winds that would distract us from morphing into what we will resurrect to be! Great poetry Jude, as always.
You do make one ponder, Jude! (:D Your new photo with the snow as background kind of fits this write, a little cold, a little dark.... Sometimes I, too, wonder if anything we do in our lives makes a difference, or lasts. An excellent write.
A good write though a bit dismal-it does call to mind that when we put ourselves out there we leave artitic license up to the reader to make of it what they need or want or feel at the time-that is the majic of writing-what we may have intended might be taken a very different way but just a valuable to each. well done, sir
Powerful stuff Jude; and fortunately too long for a gravestone.
Certainly makes us think: 'in spite of me' ... despite us all!
Love it!
"Did it ever matter, I never asked for anything?
Or tried to make best of an impossible situation?"
... Guess not. If peeps choose to set others on a pedestal, the Monster or Magus they create in their own minds says more about them than about "you". The reality of who and what "you" actually are or are setting out to achieve becomes more part of their hallucinogenic vapours than "your" own.
What has always appalled me are commentaries written about Dead Authors' work where the commentator purports to understand what was going on in the subject's mind or life at the time as a basis for their writing. GIVE ME A BREAK!! Talk about delusional and arrogant.
And, as you say, the light within you is either in a place that doesn't sleep or is potent when it does. Whatever. Guess it just doesn't shine for those who are totally lost within their own navel-fluff or genitals. I'll say that again, shall I??!! :)) No thanks, Kate, we get the drift..
Night, night. Have a good one.... All on your lonesome!
Deep and moody and yes like the others have noted this poem does seem to reflect the individual readers moods and cast them back at them. Their are times in this life that we all feel that we have already passed on and it is only our bodies occupying time that remains, you captured this well.
Your epitaph will be a beautiful tribute if:
"From time past until now
I accommodated those who came close to me"
Your poem fits my mood when I ask, "Does any of it matter?" Yet, I know that everything I do matters--not just to myself, but especially to those around me whom I love.
Everything matters, life matters, living matters, what we do for others matters, and the epitaph on our graves of who we are, what we were, the good we did, will matter forever in immortalizing the good inside us.
the light in you is shining clear, reflected through your "Epitaph." what good we do here is usu. in spit of ourselves, don't you think? you spun me around again with this one again, Jude. I'd love to hear you explain where and why you buried yourself. as for myself, I plan to resurrect the missing light when spring comes back in full force and I shed my seasonal affect or lack of same. take care, Dawn
Out there in scope and richness of the shaman, the many dimensionality of Epitaph invites poetic sensations of a man at peace...the stars only appear when "the artificial lights are turned off." Whatever the entrance gate may be, the paths are soon interwoven...the light in you will always be repetitious...you are a visionary who moves from century to century in lux...on the far side of the moon...
It matters because man is not a solitary creature and we should share our time here, with others. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean that it has to be with the same person for the entire trek, but we are here, not only to enlighten others, but for others to enlighten us. In order to give and to make a difference, we must also receive and allow others to make a difference to us. Seek harmonic balance in all things, Jude, or be destined to repeat the task. Excellent poem!
Take care,
Sherry
