Jude I really like this piece, it has everything a strong and well written statement, wonderful imagery that tosses the reader into thinking about himself and what he is or is not accomplishing.

There is so much dross that is constantly "branded into the collective psyche." We become programmed, manipulated and guided by external forces that we should not allow to effect us. We are desperate for hope -hungry for enrichment. Do we look for these things in the wrong places through our own complacency and subconscious programming? I think we do. We should look to the Master Planner for "refuge and sustenance." Beautiful introspective write Jude! You always make us think.

A very powerful message is portrayed in this poem Jude. Its message is strong and clear! We are awash in a mesh pit of existance, yet most let it continue and do nothing, except a few brave hearts who's voices go un heard. As for our planner, , I wonder who you mean. Is it us , the ones in control, or our dear Lord?......M
I always know I'm going to learn something from your work, Jude -- your imagery is wonderful. I especially enjoyed this line, "...are branded into the collective psyche of our media-shaped brains ...". Descriptive, different, excellent.

After two readings, I'm convinced that you point out shortcomiongs that are lamentable, but I'm still waiting for suggested cures, solutions, and revisions from the reviewers. I'm a dreamer, but have to remember that no one is going to make any of my dreams come true... but little ole me.
I've read every word in your ample reviews, and the most wisdom found is from Sherry Heim, early on. I, too, am convinced that too many have no sense of responsibility to help cure the tills of mankind. It's the goddamed televsion syndrome... report it and let everyone stew about whatever. Government is only as good,or crooked,as its people/voters allow it to be.
Your message is far more thatn lamentation, but dreamers have responsibilities to act on dreams, not sit on their dreamy asses and cry to the moon about unfairness. You've penned a "shake 'em up" poem, and I commend you for it. - Bill
on my first read, i thought of "our planner", as a day- timer/calendar which is ourself planning our day, then on the second time, I saw it as being a higher conscious or that which plans for us....
Our planner is asleep at the wheel, this mortal coil rolls on through space and we need to awake to our ways. Your dream brings it to our attention in vivid terms.
I think we see the world quite similar. Sometimes I look around and see hardly any good at all and I wonder where god is when the people of this world are suffering. I know he has reasons but sometimes it takes every fiber to remember that.
As for the defendant...shall we not appear...in person?
As for the defendED, perhaps we are.
As the DefendER...I agree with you, Jude...'right before us

good God, you've outdone yourself again, Jude. fascinating lines of thought flow from the words you've penned and cause me to examine my own life (brain too media-shaped? day planner ruling my world as I forget the master planner? when's the last time I took 15 minutes to hold onto/build the dream?). thx, Dawn

Albeit, it's the dreamers that invented the plane, the printer, the computer/net, the car, the camera, built America. We just gotta get the worlds paradigm shifted again...
A literary collage of intensified perspectives, starting with the view from 5 a.m., makes this read profound and compelling. I especially like the flip at the end and pray it is "growth" that our planet sees in our collective mania.
"Do we know where our planner is?"...intense and deep is this message that begs us to consider what the world, our world and perhaps even the whole universe is about. Loved this one Jude.

"branded into the collective psyche of our media-shaped brains" one of the reasons I rarely watch the news any more. There is very bad stuff in this world yet I know there is a lot of good also. I wish media would show that instead. I guess it doesn't make for good news yet it really could. Good write, I chose to grow with the good stuff of life. Lady J

This is as well a structured and well thought out insight into the nature of the world as it is today as we'll get.
'of our media-shaped brains'
I don't have much truck with social constructionism, but the media does have an influence on the individual and collective psyche beyond what's profitable. It can be dangerous too - stupidly so, even absurd e.g. sensationalising secret service activities designed to protect us, or here in the UK irrationally whipping up anti - American feeling. Many people absorbe it, I can tell, they speak fluent media.
Huh, a free press? Nonsense. How much freedom does a journalist have to write his own opinion? None, if it does not match the opinion of the media editor. Even journalists have a media shaped brain.

It is fascinating how our thoughts flow and reveal themselves. We lie asleep occupied by a dream. Yet when we awake, thoughts of reality come rushing through the door as if they'd been queing up all night to do so. I mean, between 0500 and 0515 our mind could be so intensively focused on the world outside - and we haven't even showered or had breakfast yet. Viewing the world from the parapet of a pillow.
Good morning! :)) Just had to dive in with this one, Jude, cos think I'm looking at this from the other end of the telescope. The irony of "in absentia", when, for me, this poem could equally be called "in utero". I just adore the quiet contemplation here, the night spent meditating the well-known problems as fully detailed in the body of this poem - which we can itemise without too much thinking; the parade and litany of consciousness and world events which our daylight hours are filled with the globe over. Ahhhh, but that night-time place of Dreams... To me, this poem is the last minute savouring of that special place, before grey light quenches that nocturnal flame. Dreams, The Planner, with whom we have just spent hallowed time and space, who is always with us but most especially so when we hide ourselves away with Him(her/it/whatever); who reveals Truth when we are in a still place to be able to receive it and furnishes us with answers to apply once the brazen day in all its pace and fury has taken hold. A precious, precious 15 minutes of appreciation, letting go of the night with regret but knowing what has been revealed there will steer your direction through the coming day, until once again you can inhabit the next night's hallowed space. From the POV alone, the voice and the tone... and for the inverse of all the problems it leads me into and away from, this is one of my recent favourites of yours and one of your newest very best, I think. Again, when you speak so fluently from such a deep-seated sense of belief and integrity, the Voice is clarion. Have a gooooooood day! :)) K xxoxoxo
What price does our planner pay for its role? Can the world afford to have dreamers who work so hard on their dreams that they forget what the dream is? As planners, at any time of the day, we need to separate the important from the tinsel. Shifting events swirl at a fast pace around us. Familiar landmarks are torn down, not only referring to build super centers in place of, but also those landmarks of our minds, non-dreamers who hurl the wrecking ball at us head-on. Social change was a part of ancient civilization, but there is a difference between those changes of what we see today. Change in ancient times was slow and orderly, sometimes so slow that even over generations, the change was barely perceptible...it is adapt or die which living creatures exist...we must be present to instruct our planner...in absentia reads like a prophecy...my planner is on my desk, always quilled in a month ahead itinerary...it's 1:20 AM MST in Colorado, Jude...
My (day) planner is on my desk...filled with appointments to dicuss inconsequential dreams :) Kidding aside Jude, this echoes the feeling of a waking world caught between REM, the daily grind, and any meaning to it all. A thought provoking write. Now I'm going to bed 'cause I have to be up by 5AM...for real!

I think that the main reason so many people lack hope is because we look to others to fulfill our dreams and to right the wrongs in the world. We have stopped taking responsibility for our own happiness and in doing so, have lost the ability to find it (seek and you shall find). If we do not become part of the change for the better, we cannot ever know the soothing balm of hope. Very nice inspiring poem, Jude, you really deliver a whole lot for your readers to chew on.
Take care,
