'Deprived of every natural quality' ...that's a bleak character! You certainly pack quite a punch and a KO of a close. Panda:)

Jude:
Really great! I love how the distorted faces play out in the leaves and the trees and then on and on. "Into the smoke of your living substance" What a line to sum this up.
ouch on behalf of the person(s) inspiring such incisive words. good for you for not being fooled. love the second to last couplet - seems to sum up the consumed (ash-like?) character of the other. Dawn
It is good that your were not fooled, Jude. I do love the imagery that you accessed here. Wonderful and meaningful poetry. Thank you for sharing it. Be well, friend. Love and peace,
I wish I could say I am as clever as you are. I have been fooled by quite a few. I have trouble believing that one can lie with a straight face...........
It's rare now that I am fooled. Sad, because it means I have lost some innocence.
One thing that does give them away is their lack of being humble :-)

a deeply felt write-good use of figurative language
in my perception...don't take this seriously thinking..April Fool...it had me until the last line, then "just pretended to" turned it around as a mischievious prank...
*ouch* This is hurtin' poetry, deep hurtin' pain in succinct verse: too bad I don't learn that lesson. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me...isn't that how that saying goes? I give my heart up too easily...rambling here, sorry. Your words opened up a chasm of my own aches...well done.
They Never fooled me either, 1 sTep ahead!
Great poem! Jude
I feel a little pain toward the middle~
This is a gem to treasure and savorrrr!

We are not fooled, but often we choose to believe that our gut feelings are wrong because we are not ready to face the reality of the situation, particularly in matters of the heart. This is outstanding, Jude.
Take care,
Sherry
We may not be fooled, but we all have a tendency in matters of the heart to subjectively look the other way when it comes to matters of the heart. This write reminds me of that as I once had a similar relationship and when all was said and done I too knew I hadn't been fooled...I had only fooled myself
Saying "don't take me for a fool" is like duking after the bullet went through your head.
We can't see, smell or hear the ones working themselves into a fit to make someone else a fool after looking in the mirror at the face of the biggest fools of all.
I am just prtending.
Very good.

Love the word usage here. The real fools are quickly consumed by the flames.
