Imperfect Needs

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
bleeding into the soil of reality
neither alive nor dead
just wasting away
like a figment of imagination
breathing, expiring,
planted into a unfamiliar place
inside a gaping wound
infected with the absence of wonder
polluted with a deficiency of mystery
tainted by a lack of vision
intimidated by delusions of the residential self
such is the way dreams crumble,
not with a mission
but with the worthless clatter of deceit
preparing a way for maniacal messiahs
to exploit the collective psychosis
such is the way planets disrobe
and inhabitants bend over
exposing their creed
not to genuflect to the heavens
but to be screwed
by their own imperfect needs
We do delude ourselves sometimes and we have these needs that seem, at the time, like perfect ones, only to realize later they were and are imperfect. Those "maniacal messiahs" are always going to be waiting, like hyenas hiding just waiting for an easy kill. I particularly like these lines:
"such is the way dreams crumble,
not with a mission
but with the worthless clatter of deceit"
Outstanding piece, Jude!
... How these lines amuse me... We are perhaps a double-minded peoples, loving and despising ourselves in equal measure. Learning conformity while craving uniqueness. The Dreamer within is surely always about his business, so, when he is suppressed, it is no wonder we allow ourselves - invite, even - this most basic of violations, the rape and pillage of our own souls and sovereignty. Our shallow pursuit of seeking to satisfy the "residential" self we know deep down to be our own kidology. And we disrespect ourselves for it. We thereby nurture and fondle the maniacal messiahs we create... Wonderful write, Jude! :))
Jude, this poem was remarkable. This impact of each verse tells its own story. The part about the maniacal messiahs is true. Our society now is nothing like when we grew up. Then people blew up had words, it was over. Reunited friends again. We are living in a violent age and a new society. A whole new breed of violent Messiahs, pushing all the buttons. Our youths are dropping like flies.
The selfishness of those who decieve, pretend or neglect rob us of the sustenance and meaning of life and a nurtured existenance...leaving us battered and beaten...hopeless. Such a powerful write, Jude...makes me want to fight back and hang tight.
My first thought was, "Bummer." And really, that pretty much covers it. Not the poem itself (it is written exceptionally well!), but the topic. One of those things that is hard to face. I found the line "intimidated by delusions of the residential self" quite powerful. You always make me think!
Wow! This is a very powerful poem. Not what I expected Jude. I can't pick my favorite stanza, each is creative and perfect. One day people will realize religion has nothing to do with God. Until then the inhabitants will keep bending over for pulp fiction passed off as "the word".
