~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He lives in a small cottage by a lake
Surrounded by cherry blossoms
Complemented by a trio of weeping willows
Occasionally, the fog weaves across the lawn
During the teal of twilight
Or maneuvers under the magenta of dusk
He spends much of his time
Strolling along lakeside
Absorbed in the bounty of nature’s embrace
At times, he sits on his favorite rock
Gazing into the reflection
Rippling on the lake’s golden surface
Mirroring the countryside
Arousing his senses with color, sound and scent
This morning, a white beret covers his imaginings
As a long stalk of grass hangs from his lips
Streams of poetic energy
Release its agile mechanism from his fingertips
A pen resides in pocket
Moving to a notebook inhabiting his hand
Rays of sunlight
Sift through unlocked clouds
Shedding light
Upon his words and onto this land
You have set before us a gorgeous lakeside scene here Jude, with imagery reflecting the surrounding beauty of nature and a poet who is at peace with himself and with the world around him as
"Streams of poetic energy
Release its agile mechanism from his fingertips"
This made me think of Henry Thoreau while he lived at Walden Pond. Fantastic piece!
Jude --
This beautiful poem transmits me right into the picture. I'm watching like the writer is from somewhere close by. What a shining way to tell us how the poet gets to the light of nature, a kind of poem of a poem.
I love "the teal of twilight"
Kathy
This is like a mirror-write - in that it is written in a voyeuristic reportage style - and is about a voyeur, an artist, a chronicler. A doubly observant write. Have to agree with Sage, this "he" is a designer of both words and action, probably in several different mediums and on several different planes. He has facility with manifold of the human intelligences, I expect. I can't help thinking of Brigit Pegeen Kelly's The Dragon poem as I read this... It is probably it's pastoral, mystical and mythical-type setting. Hints of magic realism here! :)) xx
Sticking with nature gets it right/write...Mise-en-scène is a calendar scene hanging on the cottage wall...simple life suits him just fine...from a lofty perch, that lone raven drops a gratuitous feather so that his pen may be dipped of fresh quill ink, that notebook, a ledger for all designs blueprinted in his mind, his starched white beret pervades peace in this tranquil place, Judesville...that ought to be woodburned into an oak plaque and hung on that cottage wall...
Almost a magical hermit feel to this one, retreating from civilization to write his words alone with only mother earth as his muse. I like that.
Once, walking by a lake with waters so calm that it was converted into an huge mirror, I was admiring a world upsidedown when a stone thrown by someone shattered the image.
I felt anger to the one that couldn't see beauty without destroying it
I didn't have pencil or notebook then, but your poem make me remmember
And...sifting through unlocked thoughts...
For your reader, it is a rare delight to absorb a self description of the poet... and such deep ad complete terms of approval and life style. You give us an unusual work, heavy with imagery and substance, and at the end, I for one, like you for being so honest.
