Sick Shadow

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Beneath the surface, tortured characters
Fester like open wounds
Bleeding into membranes
Of the innocent and blameless
Squeezing them dry
With the choke of steel smoke
Infiltrating their essence
With bone-shattering impulsions’
Devastating lives with diseased lunacy
Snuffing out principles of reason
Beneath the surface, fault lines are plentiful
Blame is inconsequential
The ramifications of upshot are impervious
To the whims of distorted perceptions
Spreading through the host
Like a gang of provoked aliens
Hovering in the mist of indefensible crowds
Landing onto the framework of established ideals
War of the contemptible has arrived
Beneath the surface, madness reigns
Only the heart of lost dreams is triumphant
Only the lure of a sick shadow survives
The image of the sick shadow reminds me of the sick murderer who terrorized VA Tech. So many "lost dreams" were snuffed out in the blink of an eye. It seems "madness reigns" in the world today. The poem is beautiful and the message powerful. Well done, Jude.
You just gave voice to your Detritus character...I can hear him speaking in Darth-Vadar-like tongue, a robotic sort of character spawned from cryogenics...Sick Shadow has cinematic sci-fi appeal...
One can only grasp a small glimpse into the thoughts of your expression....it is within the deep shadows of a mind twisted into a source not of this world, and the explosion of this inhumane and disillusioned way of thought comes forth from your poem and shows us a small glimpse of....madness...
Wow! You give the reader much to think about with this deep and moving write. We don't know what another person is thinking, or what they may have endured in their past to create rage, hurt, and anger! The sadness and pain can be felt within the lines of your write...the imagery is outstanding...paints a picture that is hard to forget. So sad when others pain and anger is inflicted upon those that are innocent...profound & intense write my friend.
Blessings,
Beneath the surface, like the implacable face of the iceberg, lurks the 7/8 or 9/10 potential for destruction. I make no apologies for those who choose their own right to life/death/payback over that of others from whom they equally take upon themselves to deny this basic right... But to me it is all relative. Even I do not know of what I am capable if push comes to shove... though that which I know I COULD do scares me half to death... Just bein honest here. That bein said, with society's pervasive warped preoccupation with blood-curdling media items, news, gossip, computer-games, war-games, guns, sex and all the rest of the soul-destroying and de-personalising litany, are we really surprised when melodrama becomes real in the life of some crackpot? It's the ruthless coldbloodedness of some mass murderers that is mindbending... along with the brute ignorance of drink-drivers who unwittingly mow down a crowd. The world has at last become so unreal that we are starting to live it out... for real. Horrific. Our communities pay a high price for the sense of marginalisation and isolation that others feel when excluded from within their midst...
Like twisted emotional, visceral and bleeding body-part wreckage this write is, in high velocity impact with your well-oiled poetry machine. Here metal and madness meet. Haematoma shadowing results.
Think I've finished... somebody must have cut off my air supply! :)) K xx
I know how saddened your heart and soul are,when such vile abuse is uselessly perpretrated upon innocent victims! This incredibly powerful poem is evidence of your concern and reflect what I too feel. I pray we may all remember that Creator gave us a choice. How we choose to live is our responsibility! Splendid poem Jude, one to
ponder!
Indeed, we live in interesting and troubled times, Jude. It is not always possible to recognize another's battle from what we see on the surface and all too often, a hidden rage will explode into something that leaves us all shocked and dismayed. After the fact, we wonder how we could have missed the warning signs, but the reality is that the signs were vague or perhaps cast aside as foolish rantings and that no one would have recognized them as anything more, until after the seething rage finally occurs. Hindsight being 20/20 we all speculate and wave our fingers, but truly, it is far too late and pointless to try and cast blame on anyone but the aggressor and most likely too late to ever understand his/her motivations. Well written, Jude, you say so much in just a few stanzas.
Take care,
Sherry
