My friend, this is an excellent piece of poetry.

There are so few to stand and fight this change that must surely become a right of existence, your expression through poetic display finds many exposed ideas and thoughts that show the awareness of this process. Isn't it so sad that we have come to the realization of all the past and its path that has lead us to today and this seriousness of our societies faults. There is blame but we must strive to find solution so the future generations can see there is....hope...

biggest enemy there is Robert, sometimes I wonder about us so called human beings, this is some real nice poetic verse telling us humanoids that we need to check ourselves at the door,

I for one stand checked,

trying super hard not to get wrecked,
or from the vulture head pecked.
I watch them in the field,
on a carcass they don't yield.
In their places,
I can see so called human faces.
The whole scene is disgusting,
even the old car rusting.

I drive on

You hit the proverbial nail on the head with this one, Jude. We are the victims of our own human nature. We must not lose our faith and faculties of reason. If we do, our children are doomed. We have to avoid the consequences of "disunited spirit." Powerful write!

I believe the children have the necessary tools to fix any mess we may have created...I know mine and they are totally "green" environmental, health, etc...way beyond my wasteful ways! Schism, both within and without. A body, partnership, corporation, nation divided against itself will not stand. Principles of divide and rule do not even work on a personal level, let alone a national one... and internationally it is a complete and utter nonsense, resulting in the mayhem we are now witnessing worldwide. Fascinated by your lines: "The enemy Of this battleground Is our human nature"... why? Because it is ultimately peace-loving and its default setting is love and concord? Or is this a demonstration of the confusion, that battles are raging all around, caused by our fractured humanity? If we are both losing faith AND surrendering our faculty of reason, what remains but the survival of the fittest... We are becoming positively Neanderthal... Time to get out and just go Clubbing, in that case! :)) You paint a world without Walt Whitman and minus the invisible legislatures of the Declaration of Independence, written on the wind.... Ah, but the children... let's pray that they are written into their spirits and into their DNA, at the very least...

'battleground' reminds me that our feet must be kept on the ground. tolerance is also a must. i think unity appears when it is most needed as in the case of the past world wars. any work such as this one that provokes thought and analysis is invaluable. thanks for sharing and provoking us! About halfway through DISUNITED SPIRIT I could see members of a New-World Congress jumping to their feet and shouting "Here! Here!" in total concurrence. A seriously kick-ass poem Mr. Forese. Thank you.

Jude, you write with phenomenal power, intelligence, concern and with an underlay of emotion about a subject that can get each one of us going yet tangled in the red tape of what one person can do. Our children are the future and I fear for what they will have to contend with.

I have witnessed this downfall for the past 10 to 15 years...and as each year goes by and I see the results coming back to haunt us, playing havoc on my world as I knew it!

Most people nowadays live for today alright...without any respect or concern for tomorrow, or the children that will be left to wallow in it. You know who's to blame!

I want to know why my daughter can't be a cheerleader in highschool!
I want to know why it will cost $1500.00 in a public school system, no less, for her to support her high school team!
Do they really need five different uniforms all with matching shoes and socks, hairbows and metallic pom poms...Do they need to ride in luxury buses? Who is responsible? The parents...who suffers?...the children

Jude, what a magnificent writing, this message is clear and precise and everyone needs to read it. There must be a positive outlook in any country or children will become pessimistic about their future & the future of their country. Even in adults, we, can sometimes feel like...well, what's the use...it's going to be the same old negativity. Good Write!!!

This says it all Jude. My kids, the kids of today are losing the faith due to the political aspects which are going on. When we were kids, getting a part time job was easy, in this day, the kids are struggling to find that job as a stock boy or cashier. What as happened to society when you are asked do you speak Russian, or Spanish?

"Disunited Spirit" is a broad view of how persons are so propogandized by the media that they fail to keep an objective view that strives for unity and solutions. Yes, I agree that we are sometimes torn by whom we are and whom we "think" we are as based on our reflections and associations through the news media. The old firm homefront foundation our society once enjoyed, before the electronic age, that kept beliefs sound and undiluted is dead and reincarnated by the "schizophrenic" mindset you speak of in your poem. How sad it is, especially for us old timers who have witnessed the evolvement of such drastic changes in our turbulent society. Even sadder, as you said, are our children's futures--not just their futures, but every moment of their lives.
Your poem is an interesting and thoughtful write.

Jude - This is vry well crafted and presented. I am a bette5r person for having read it. This is good thinking. An observation from one who has llived the four score and more: The people of prosperous countries, especially thos wo speak English, have gone SOFT toward crimminals. We don't punish, or withhold from those who should be taught where the lline is drawn. Methhinks that the liberals are too full of, "The poor little desserving deprived," or some such bullshit. Thank you for a timely social commentary.

Oh if politicians read this on their mirror each morning maybe this Country might last.

Yes -well put Jude - clear lines - and all about the split of the spirit, the country, the world - 'the battle ground is our own human nature' and 'our children's future left to suffer the consequences of disunited spirit' Yes we are our own worst enemy - but back to your poem:


The work that needs to be done to attempt to secure a more united future, a less 'disunited spirit' for the next generation, is, you suggest, through communication: 'the balanced and unbiased expression of opinion and idea' - this is part of the key to a rebirth leading to a less 'disunited spirit', and for this discussion to take place, time needs to run its course. Also action is required, you dismay/warn there is a need to 'promote solutions' – and with these points in mind, you give a very interesting, but negative picture of an 'extremist mindset, almost schizophrenic, distributing the propaganda of polarized ideals' which, as far as i can tell from your poem is located within the mindset/government - 'this one an extremist one, brought about by mythomania and the propoganda of split ideals'. Yes –it seems that way.


The dualistic nature of the human, and in the dominance of two party politics in your country and mine, is shown negatively and imbalanced in your poem, however, and here is the optimist in me, within that dualistic mind/nature/government, is also the 'cure', a return/or breakthrough to a more balanced approach, either by vote - a compromise politic always best inclusive of the extremist, ie wonderful democracy!, or a breakthrough/change/revelation of the extremist towards a more wholesome central position(ha ha, but it does seem that way in the uk these days)..or straight up revolution! ie a wilful change or movement, within the ideals of either Natures mysterious ways, or peopled revolution with the desire to benefit themselves and others, by gaining better conditions for all, inclusion and acceptance, for and by society.


Not everyone is going to be happy about this process of change, obviously, cos folk don’t tend to like the only constant there is! (<--arguable point?)(nor do folk like desease/unease either) - so a state of chronic through to acute disunity/struggle/war is part of the cycle of change. And while people and Nature promote change through actions - people and Nature also peddle at own speed ... If 'the premise of this land is toleration and unity' and if people work for that idea, in a positive and open fashion, then the future i feel (unless Nature has other plans) is surely a more united country/mind/world. Let's hope so. Because we all like peace. So, on that note - ill shut up now!
