We observe the mysterious design of nature’s matrix
Maneuvering into the atmosphere of our tired thoughts,
Uncovering the significance of life’s unfolding tale

We marvel at the rings of Saturn, the ballet of the amoeba,
Earthworms burrowing through the soil

We witness an octopus preying on moray eel,
The labor of a honey bee
Obsessed with the latticework of hexagonal cells

We survey grass growing, enjoy the fruits of creation,
Recognize the swapping over of sun and moon

We examine the flow of volcanic lava,
Our minds transforming into symbiotic steam

We consider our planet’s evolving blueprint
Appreciating the spontaneous plan
Of order and chaos
Wondering how long balance will survive
For we live in times when beauty
Is commingled with fear

Dreams of a vanishing paradise
Are disguised as a garden in Disneyland

Persona devotion slithers down
Trees and black flowers
Bargaining with the kingdom of darkness
For the portal of vanity, power and greed

We speculate when and how terror riders of the nuclear dawn
Will light the sky with the unthinkable

We wonder about natural world and the temperament of our souls,
About the state of affairs growing in the collective mindset

Exposing the character within us
Exploring the nature we share

On the Poetic Role is analagous to culture being able to change on its own terms, adopting beneficial aspects of the ancient world and rejecting intrusions which can only harm our spirit and heritage. The earth's tired soils reveal that there are other possibilities, other ways of thinking and living with peaceful Earth. We need to listen to vocabulary based on the wind and know that the shaman journeys beyond the Milky Way...very rhythmic words here, Jude...a drumbeat of our collective mindset for sure...

Your words certainly make one stop and consider all we are and why we spend so much time destroying what has been offered and given throughout the history of life on earth.
Whether we've made it or it's simply a creation by nature, man has managed to bring destruction to it.
Grand writing Robert.

That says it all, Jude. Awesome write.

A poem of two parts... how effortlessly we are called to observe with you the marvels of the natural world which surrounds us, and of which we are necessarily a part. And then that clever turn:

We consider our planet’s evolving blueprint
Appreciating the spontaneous plan
Of order and chaos
Wondering how long balance will survive ...

When all that is natural is superimposed by the imposter, the man-made unnatural and synthetic. Here the tone is different and the effect is as when the lights go up on worn and harried party-goers in the seedy hours of the late night, spewing the guts of what the "beautiful people" have become in the cold light of morning after a night of heavy revelry. Only much, much worse.

I like the voicing in this one - both collective and intimately personal in the "us", leading us into the truism that we are both those personally accountable for this world's long-term outcomes, and collectively a part of the general and objective state of the world in both its wonder and its woefulness. This consideration, in turn, leads us into the double-entendre of the lines in the final couplet, exposing the character both at work in the world and in us; exploring the natural world around us and an inherent personal temperament that it at once inclusive and potentially exclusive.

A self-reflexive write that echoes and reverberates, exposing, exploring and digging deep, like what the Poetic Roll is and should be: a steady drumbeat, quickening the heartbeat... taking us out of the downbeat and into the upbeat... Something like that, anyways... TY Kate xx

We are as multi-dimensional as the universe around us. Our exploration of those dimensions leads us forward into the discovery of what we truly want and who we really are. Observing the wonderments and catastrophes around us will only confirm our true character. Very nice verse. t y & t c

Jude, this is a great write...it caused this reader to stop and read each line careful and visualize it in my mind. "We wonder about natural world and the temperament of our souls, about the state of affairs growing in the collective mindset." These lines says much and made me stop to think about my own temperament within my soul...did it passed the test? This is an emotional and profound poem.

About the state of affairs growing in the collective mindset

Exposing the character within us
Exploring the nature we share." Outstanding piece, Jude!

Poets write what they see within their minds,
visions that escapes others, Nature is detiriating before our eyes
and no one hears our alarms, those that read of it, can only compliment the poet's ability to describe his thoughts
An excellent write Robert.

In some way, I believe that being a writer encourages us to look beyond the wrapper of life and see what hides inside. I cannot imagine going through life and not seeing, smelling, tasting, hearing and feeling all that is offered to me. Behold the sunrise for once it is done, it will never again appear the same. Beautiful and aware poem, Jude, inspired by the heart and soul of a true poet. It is nice to be here long enough to read a few of my favorite authors again.
Take care,
Sherry
