~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We choreograph our moves
Upon the surface of life’s waves
And in the depth of our hearts
At times, we begin to drown
In our separate sea of dreams
But quickly respond to set aside
Our divided positions
Resuscitating the reality we share
We synchronize our minds and bodies
To swim as a single essence
Drifting over currents of emotion
Daring each other to push our limits
Assisting each delicate stroke
Supporting every awkward effort
We are committed in achieving our goals
And visualize our performance
From the eyes of an unseen audience
Watching every breath we make
Applauding every bubble we create
I love your poem and hope my interpretation is not way out....
I read in "Catalina" that we set our course in life, which often puts obstacles in our way; however, our resilency and "come back" mentality lets us rethink our goals and keep moving forward, weighing our progress through the mirror of others' reflections.
Durn, I thought it was us, like Nero, watching Catalina burn. And then, like Natalie Wood, drunkenly drowning off shore. No, it is a methaphor for life, brilliantly conceived.
Floating bananas on bamboo rafts gathering for a feast where scattered grains of sand build one collective castle for everyone, the doves and pigeons fly over the Pacific sharing the same air, evolved of new behavior...I see a bit of evolution here, Jude...the thing about small islands is that you can see the problems, probably the value of small islands to the whole world...
I thought pretty much the same as Kate Burnside regarding this smooth and flowing piece of work, and yet...it does a double-entendre as well...making one's mind attach it to journeys of the closest of relationships. Well done, Jude!
Such a beautiful water ballet you paint for us here, Jude. Such inner and outer harmony and balance; such delicate poise and strength as known to swimmers and dancers alike. Life's aerobic exercise, physically, mentally and spiritually - for which you need good lung capacity! Love both the singular and the "team" implications, where our mutual interaction, encouragement and support helps each to our own unique as well as corporate potential. This is a kind of Olympian write, where the Games are as much a part of and contributory to the overarching metaphysical world as to the physical one. A description of synchronised swimming has never sounded so good or felt so real! Now, if only the whole world would do the Catalina... :)) LOL K xx
It's like little children blowing bubbles from the bubble O mix through that tiny little ring on the end of the stick.. They come out in all shapes and sizes, and each one causes a reaction of delight..some last for ages and float off, some pop straight away, in any case they are delightful. As must she be, enjoy her colours.
Enjoyed this write my friend, it is uplifting and positive, full of hope. Loved the final lines very powerful, lingers on one's thoughts, in a good way...causing the reader to ponder upon their own life. Are we living it to the fullest, are giving one hundred percent, or are we just sitting back and allowing it to pass us by! Enjoyed this much!
It is always good to set standards for ourselves concerning quality and content. If one is serious about what they do, artistically, there should never be any compromise to the individual vision. Dai makes some good points below.
Your writing always cleans my synapses Robert. A beautiful, almost eloquent poem.
good poetry has a tendency to connect with each reader in a personal way.
This work of yours beginning with the title, reminded me of a special weekend spend on Catalina Is. with my wife, when we first got together...the blending of two lives into one...two outlines to make a complete manuscript.
This piece of yours my friend...based on my connection and what I see below...is good poetry.
Jude, mankind tends to live the life they have chosen & not a life someone else tries to create...most are committed to goals, rules, religion and morals that they have chosen. Sometimes we get caught up in our own single essences to forget what we want to accomplish. I liked this a lot!
Title aside, the theme of this poem is resonates with that side of us that is aware of our need to constantly strive. This action while driven largely by self motivation, is also dependant on others sharing the same pool to dare us push our limits. However, sometimes this mutual encouragement is hindered by intrusive spirits of jealousness, misguided competitiveness, apathy even neglect.
The last coupling is the wine we seek to sip from daily.
