~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some things appear large
When they’re really quite small
Just look at some of the egos
Who believe the world is their personal ball
To be played around with
Like in a sporting event
Where they’re their entire audience
And the applause is self-indulgent
And the goal only materializes in dreams
Some things seem so grand and impressive
Capturing the attention of all
When in fact they’re inconsequential
Having little validity or power
But retain the ability to enthrall
Just like a hit movie
Where a cartoon hero
Captures the world in his web
Saving it from evil and confusion
Just an illusion
But goes great with popcorn and coke
Some things have the impression of being minute
Yet encompass the vastness of idea
Like a poem on a folded piece of paper
Like words growing inside a head
Dear Jude:
Yes some never get beyon the infant in the crib - mine, mine, mine.
Where they’re their entire audience
And the applause is self-indulgent
And the goal only materializes in dreams
You last two stanzas are magnificent.
Love the DNA thread of logic that runs through these stanzas, Jude that lends energy, life, meaning and cohesion to the whole. Funny, init, that both grand illusions and dreams fulfilled start out from the core seed, perhaps, of words/ideas growing inside one single brain cell... One man's vanity is another man's reality. Whatever the excuse for the popcorn and coke, it all makes great viewing/experiencing in the cinema of life. Without a vision, real or entertained, the people perish. Just Imagine, as the Wise One said... Kate xx
Superb insight, Jude!
Reminds me of a truck I saw parked at a campsite. The back window had
a large sign reading: "No Fear." The truck owner, as I watched and grinned, was running full speed away from a skunk!
Everything "measures out" in the end, doesn't it?
love this Robert, from this I can tell you the truth, this poetry thing is too much, my personality warrants low profile, the contradiction thing is as it is, contradiction. I can deal with it all even though I'm functioning outside my aura
Jude, this is just pure poetry, no one can call it anything else...I've had these thoughts many times in my life and I'm sure every other reader has too but never thought to put them in writing. You've captured some great lines in this piece and given us readers a real good writing.
Wow this is a very Interesting write
That activates the mind to think and crave
The popcorn and coke
I did not see the movie Sin City
Because I did not like the comic book!
Excellent write my friend.
Love And Peace to you always...Morning Star
Write on. But will it reach the masses with buttered fingers and cartoon crazed eyes?
btw, I enjoyed Sin City immensely, thinking it some deep, brooding novel, only to find out it was a comic book!
Oh, and, I believe the games the Romans devised for the Coliseum were meant for the masses.
Your interesting poem sounds like a definitive definition of perception.
Your poetry truly evokes feelings and makes me think--I've heard that poetry is supposed to do that. I enjoy reading what you write.
Jude, I like what you have been doing lately...the blending of couplets, tercets and quatrains. When reading this...silently or out loud, it has the feel of conversation. When added to your excellent use of rhythm and imagery, it makes for really good writing in general, poetry in particular.
I have reached the point of not being surprised anymore at what the general public considers to be "grand and impressive." Rediculous movies devoid of any real value, rap (I think they spelled it wrong) masquerading as "music." To see how people devour this garbage and worship the people who make it discusts me. Your poem shows how things which are considered minute, "Like a poem on a folded piece of paper" encompass the depth of important ideas. Great write!
I don't think that I have the words to express exactly how I felt while reading this remarkable write! Too many times in this mixed up world in which we live recognition and rewards through words, money, and media worth and value is placed on things that are trivial, movies, entertainment, and such...while there are those whom are out fighting for a great cause, working to make the world a better place to live, to make it last long enough for our grandchildren and great grandchildren to enjoy and live! Teaching the youth of today, trying to make a difference, yet they go unnoticed, or are given a very small amount of recognition, while there are others whom only portray a certain life in films, and live an entire different life in reality and they reap the rewards, recieve the recognition, and the world flocks at their feet! So much can be taken from this write, so much was given! Excellent offering my friend!
Blessings,
Joyce B.
Seems there is always something in this world that will please anybody Robert. From the most mundane, to the exquisitely prolific, there are always those who will imbibe. Quality in these days seems to have been relegated too much to technology. I have found that seeking the heart of the matter often reveals what is glossed over in the construction and expression of it. Sometimes, oftentimes, there is no heart.
Enjoyed this poet ...
Very impressive thoughts here my friend and so true. It is funny how a movie can create a worldwide sensation and earn billions of dollars but have no real earthly value yet something like a teacher who dedicates their whole life to teaching the youth to change the world of tomorrow gets a few lines of obit when they die. Good write to think about here.
Great write, Jude. These large-headed egos can't get through the door. It is one thing to be the center of attention, monopolizing every other person in the room. That's a negative. Instead, it's the people who realize they are charismatic without even talking; these choice few someone else in the room might be just as important or even more than they who end up on top.
Numskull - the vasectomy needle is LARGE to puncture those tiny balls, squeeze out the testosterone little prick at a time, like a bothersome pimple...jock strap can't save it now! "Like words growing inside a head."
Nuthatch - (nut hach) n. any of various widely distributed small birds having short tails, long wings, and the creeping habit: they are allied to the titmice.
I think this is the first origami I have seen you fold into a poem that flies, Jude...
