Catching Fire

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When everything around you
Has burned up
The only option left
Is set yourself on fire
Like a candle balanced on a leaf
Heading toward an inverted waterfall
The flame is fed on the breath of reflection
And lives on the upturn of its own consumption
Like a torch
Flickering on a wall of a cave
Dreams flap around in the wind
Accustomed to details of their surrounding darkness
Catching the fire of meaning and motion
With no conditions except to ignite
There is a certain facination with fire. Trouble is, get too close and get burned--like love.
... Goodness me, I can so get with this one, Jude, given the fact that on exactly the same night, it seems, I was given my very own personal bonfire on the beach and wrote a poem on exactly these kinda lines. Amazing. And just adore the inverted waterfall, given the fact that a school of whales had just been surfacing and "blowing" a couple of hours before, just offshore beyond the coral reef. My mind has a natural tendency to want to exchange the word "alight" in line 4, for "on fire", which to me seems to be destructive rather than purifying or transcendent, which is the sense of release and liberation I'm getting from this poem. Slightly more delicate and fragile, too... which to me ties in beautifully with the introduction of that candle on the leaf in the following line. These highly spiritualised images then feed in nicely with the:
Like a torch
Flickering on a wall of a cave
Dreams flap around in the wind
Accustomed to details of their surrounding darkness
... which is wonderfully Indianna Jones, suggestive of adventure and conquest. The whole is very much in tune, I think, with your ideas in a previous write about "eyes growing leaves in the dark", Dream Ku Act 1. Tightly crafted and well-fused. I sure have missed you! Love Kate xx
...as most flames flicker and die out some reach the destination to be treasured as a beacon in the dark, I hope the candle instead of burning you leads you to a better place.
I don't know why this poem make me think of a burning rock, can stones show a flame?
Jude, sometimes you write with shadows masqueradong as lighted candles.
Well done, but read between the lines!
In the spirit of the light, as Amber suggest, your light will linger for a brief second, ignite and open your soul to the Universe. let me know how it feels. I already know.
Jude, I was doing a meditation last night, and somehow I thought of you. I feel as though you may need some healing energy, tonight, open to this thought, and let healing white energy light come into your spirit for rejuvenation and light.
May peace, love, and light fill your every moment and bring you the wellness you truly deserve..
Peace,
Amber "V"
