~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vaporous bodies wander creaky wooden floors
Calling to each other in the depths of endless nights
Desperately trying to capture the attention
Of their empty reflections in cracked mirrors
As they weave through the density of being
Anxiously trying to forget
They can only remember
Being wedged in eternity
In currents surrounding
The decaying riverbank of souls
Time after time they consider
If they will ever have the fortune
To move on
Past the dreams of their own demise
And the habitat of an undying affliction
Still they yowl
At the arrival of twilight
Adjusted to their present way of life
Ghosts lament...tortured souls for all eternity. I love the line, "As they weave through the density of being"...intense. Well done! Best, Elizabeth
There are many perspectives concerning this phenomena, but I happen to see things as you do here. You capture the quiet frustration and despair of these disembodied entities perfectly. I enjoyed this very much.
They are only trapped, if someone tells them they are not living they will go to the other side. But we all have someone we think of as a ghost that have left us. Lovely wonderful write.
Populate the minds of fearful men. I've seen those old photos, just as phoney as the day they were contrived. Interesting poem, thjough.
Whether I believe in the reality of ghosts or not, your poem paints a very sad existence for these poor souls.
... This so reminds me of a write I did called "The Haunting", I think, where I quoted EJ Scovell talking about lovers being like cats, roving out into the night and coasting the souls of those they love like furniture. It's the yowling at twilight. When I was a child, I lived only 4 miles from the first Wildlife Park in the country, where the lions could be heard at dusk roaring for their dinner! Density of being can be a killer for those of us who feel permanently misplaced. The Thinkers in life see things so much in the round and from all perspectives that their souls are very weighty with a certain gravitas, perhaps... consequently, as their flesh wears thin or disappears altogether, their souls take on more solidity and shape and the seven-eights of their REAL being starts to emerge, like an exposed iceberg. They have an uncanny knack for seeing the substance of life inside-out, and living life inside-out. Makes me think of heros and heroines like Jude The Obscure, Tess of the Ds; Seth and Maggie in City of Angels. This has quite a peaceful feel to me... kind of resigned. Just waitin for things to evolve and resolve whilst still here in the present. And your first couplet makes me smile broadly... Sounds eerily like the Hotel I was staying in in Aldeburgh last week... and the goings on in certain quarters among this gathering of poets, too! :)) LOL K xx
Wow. You capture quite a haunting mood with this piece. It must be so terrible to be a ghost. Imagine how many decades they wait for "their own demise".-- wishing, hoping, drifting along--possibly thru centuries. It's no wonder they wake up on the wrong side of the bed! There's no rest for a restless soul...
It's haunting me. --Charlie
WE know what we know...and sometimes we are silent because to say we are special would unmask the mystery. You are as deep as anyone I've encountered.
I have encountered may entities in my life. One encounter truly was a lost soul..I will never forget that night, and as long as I live, I shall never try to figure any of that out..It is what it is, and we must just coexist with all energies..
Peace, Love, and Light,
Don't know where ghosts come from but Christ mentions them in the Bible.I doubt if they come from Purgatory as that is a peaceful place where we atone for our sins and eventually gain heaven. Most of us hopefully will end up there knowing we are saved.
I often wonder about those poor souls caught between this plane and he next that they cannot seem to attain. perhaps the purgatory that church teacing taught us is the state of purgatory is between worlds.
