~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Madness is only a burden
If you’re unaware of its pathology
Just as the sins of man
Are only creations of circumstance and necessity
Built upon a preoccupation
With character and identity
Until the subconscious desire kicks in
And power controls unleash
Then the crystal ashtray with a puro
Nestled between contoured groves
And its adjacent objects own you
Then the urges and passions of existence
And even their smoke trails and long ashes
Have the authority and control
To possess your sense of self
Just as a home shelters you
Or a car transports you
Through miles of space, time and substance
Through an elusive sense of contentment
And a false sense security
While doing ninety on the freeway
Just to arrive and relax arm in arm before the fireplace
Reflecting on the cozy relationship
With all your things and beings
Attached to this world
Smoking a Cohiba in the smoky patterns of life
It is a fine madness that consumes us like the tobacco in a cigar.
We can all be bloody idiots, and even so, wear a badge to prove it!
It's the craving for nicotene that gets me everytime!
I often wonder, if I would survive homesteading? ...or is it just too much "Little House on the Praire?", fogging my abilities?
Whatcha rollin? :)
Jude~ Look below me, the reviews ...Take a bow!
I felt a shiver when reading this Ace. I love it when poetry does that to me. Thanks for the experience.
So much of our need for security is an illusion and can certainly turn into a trap, a soft, asphyxiating cocoon.
But are we aware of it? Do we carry it as a (un)necessary burden? And can it be used against us, to make us vulnerable, to make us obey...
These are the thoughts and questions your poem brings to my mind. Meanwhile I enjoy a Cohiba or a Montecristo and the (not so) smoky patterns of your poetry.
A piece interwoven to transform thoughts into a reality realm. Filled with so much common sense and the love shared with another....
So pleased to be reviewing above Georg who has the Hemmingway-take the same as me... You have expensive tastes, Senor. That "elusive sense of contentment" comes either side of the fence, it seems to me: whether you exist under sufferance behind the limitations of perceived social values and shape your life according to them; or whether you let it all hang out and go for broke into whatever feels good. Guess in many ways we strive for an experiential reality of peace, satisfaction, self-actualisation and fufillment through the runes of our own manufactured smoke rings... And it sure tastes good! :)) But unless we know for certain sure that we are able to live in a contemporaneous parallel universe by virtue of the spirit within, whether hard on the street or tucked up before our roaring log fires in Aspen, the need for escape from the trappings of existance and even our own disappointment with material values, is real enough. Reminds me of Margarita last year... I got a beautiful cigar hand rolled for someone at a local market and they nearly asphyxiated themselves trying to get to drag on it... for some reason it was impossible... must have been wrong thighs! A cool and easy write, nestling between your own contoured grooves of thought; you can make even our betes noirs and false sense of security feel exotic and homely. Hasta siempre, Kate xx
They said it was rolled on the inside of girls tights to give the tobacco leaf a better taste, maybe it was true two or three hundred years ago but not today in the industrial way the world revolves.
The autor here are more near describing the Smoky Patterns that are more near to Pappa Hemingway's thoughts than the lame fake identity of today's society.
A Cohiba with a wobble cognac glass filled with a 25 years old Rem`y Martin in front of the fire place were a naked maiden on a bear rug is waiting for you to make up your picking cotton mind....
through the hazy smoke pattern of a Cohiba
fires the imagination,because you have poetic
eyes,that translate images into superb poems
But madness is normal for some. To me, madness is the fine line that when strayed to one side of the line is genuis and a step over is madness. History's given us tons of examples.
I wonder if those mad are even aware that they are. I wonder too if those who have a romantic notion about the possibility of being so wear the pretense as a badge? This tasty philosophic insight gnaws at the intellect. Seemingly a write that could have concieved in a bit of personal experience. Intriguing!
Dear Jude, Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Yes, madness creates a whirlwind, without our knowledge. One should always avoid madness by surrounding oneself with positive thinking and positive actions. Your writes are always appreciated. Emile
