Oh yes, a goody for certain sure, sunny-side up... Have to say, I'm with Felix being somewhat of a fruity gal, and if the cooker of that fatty aroma was truly way down the priority list (after food and the morning headlines and marginally in front of the cat), then perhaps this is somewhat of a Raymond Chandler or Agatha Christie in the making! :)) And ahh, that small print. Yes, tis all in the footnotes of life, the rubric. On the other hand, my own eyesight has really been troubling me these past few weeks, such as this all rings more than a little true in the physical realms... and oh how disquieting it is; if I DO end up working with dementia patients this year, I shall certainly be aware that the losing of sense and faculty can SERIOUSLY make you question your grasp and bearings on what it is that has made up the fabric of your life in the past, so as to make you what you are in the present. And questions must arise as to what is real or unreal for certain sure: "Am I who I think I am?" "Was it REALLY like that?" On the other hand, don't tell me... out if this cozy, connubile setting that Eileen speaks of perhaps there are further clues... This is an unorthodox couple for a start... waking and eating breakfast at sunset... What's their dentition like??!! :)) And, if this is an "imagined-self" write, maybe all this intense peering into the small print of the mind will start to burn a small hole in the subject's brain through which a previously undisclosed aperture into a new galaxy, state of being and capacity for thought process will start to emerge... This poem, though innocently portrayed, perhaps, is as high in calorific content of possibility as it is in the feel-good mellow-yellows... Gotta love it!

That old saying of...read the small print...applies to even the interior thoughts of our minds, though instant coffee, eggs and bacon can begin that process...it's the little things in life that get us going...

An image rich, excellent offering, Jude, I really enjoyed this read. I felt like I was watching an episode of "Father Knows Best" or "The Donna Reed Show." You speak of the rut that was, most people don't have time to sit down to that leisurely breakfast with newspaper anymore, let alone find the time to write. Perhaps poetry will pull him from the "box" that he has lived in for all of his life. Excellent character construction, I wanted to peer a bit longer into his life. Happiest of New Year's to you!
