the Ramblings of Incognito

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the sky is coughing,
wheezing the desperate gases of modern existence
its lungs congested,
spewing out the phlegm of a polluted horizon
the sea is dark,
layered with tempestuous waves
surfed by governments, militaries
and corporative titans
doing a balancing act on political boards
embedded with barnacles of rapacious wipe out
the sea’s once pristine surface
is contaminated with the fuel-trail of goliath barges
laden with the black blood of investors, allied power brokers
and apparitions of nationalized self-interests
our landscapes are repeatedly gang-raped
by domestic construction
by power plant gardeners,
and precious metal miners
by endangered animal hunters,
and rain forest ravagers
by lavish sky scarper designers,
and a sundry of inventors and scientists
mixing into an expanding populace of poor, sickly beings
their collective spirit invaded by fear, doubt
madison ave., the dow, hollywood
and assorted platforms of personality worship
converging with the core heart of civilization
enslaved by hatred, bigotry and class distinction
controlled by psychopaths, sociopaths,
murderers, sadistic gang-bangers
by holier-than-thous,
and the super-rich and their elite sycophants
by the regalia of religious fanatics,
and the doldrums of day laborers
by cults of soccer moms,
and drug-induced analysts
by ranks of artists and actors,
and a pantry of didactic poets
by a maelstrom of misguided leaders,
and day dreamers of misplaced adventure
history repeats itself
like a lucid nightmare
and perseveres to be reborn
from exhumed bones in the remains of progress
life traverses the circuitry of an incessant armageddon
beneath the creative whispers of an awakening cosmos
where the sky is laughing stars
and some of its travelers desiring to remain incognito
"life traverses the circuitry of an incessant armageddon
Love these lines.....
Love the way your mind works; I relate to/connect with your perspective well and thoroughly enjoy your poetic offerings. This one reminds me a bit of my own "Painting in a Maple Frame", not in style so much as in the notions presented.
greetings, dear jude... & top of the morning to you too!? ;-)
as i sit here listening to quail calls in the morning mist, relfecting on this painfully onpoint creation of yours, the sense of doom i've long felt overwhelms... stepping back to engage those "laughing stars" is the only way to cope.
another masterpiece,
There is no evidence to prove yet, that man is the most highly evolved species on this planet. I think your poem makes that quite evident.
Take care and try not to let all that pillaging get you down.
I love how you personify the sky to make these valid points. You capture the times we live in, plus you manage to give us vivid imagery. An excellent balance exists in this work. Thought provoking and riddled with reality~
My goodness... The Complete Works In A Nutshell. Love the way you take us from the Big Picture to the Minutia: from the "allied power brokers, through the "power plant gardeners" to the "elite sycophants" and "cults of soccer moms". Your poetic larder is stuffed with mincing morsels to die for and none of us are immune: we're all in this melting pot together, part of that "lucid nightmare" persevering "to be reborn from exhumed bones in the remains of progress". Imagery to die for. Yet I love the last two couplets where you offer us perhaps a glimpse of the Big Fat Controller somewhere, keeping an eye on that "circuitry of an incessant armageddon" whilst listening out for the new vision shared in those "creative whispers of an awakening cosmos". Some of these inter-galactic hitchhikers may indeed wish to remain incognito, but they don't miss a thing and we could sure do with their over-arching views on the state of the problem. Perhaps they may even be able to come up with the fix? Just a thought: yes history does indeed repeat in terms of the seeming battles between the duallisms of human nature. Yet, if it weren't for the Industrial Revolution in the mid 1800s, would things have gotten this bad... or this good to get so bad about?!
... But this IS good. And your strongest voice, I think. A definite go-er in terms of a submssion... somewhere where it will be appreciated! No pearls before swine... Kate xx
I wonder what the stars would say if they could speak about this very deep write of yours. Saving this, it's a solid poem of social conciousness and most appreciated.
Hey Jude, The couplets bind the poem together for a powerful read. I like "cults of soccer moms" and "corporative titans." Too many to list here, my favorite lines. This poem flows with a painful impetus. I also wrote a poem about condos with a similar theme.
Peace, when possible, Kathy Kopp
All it takes for the ravagers to be successful is for those of good intent to remain silent. It is unfortunate that most of us are very good at pointing out the problems but few of make the effort to do something to change it, as though we feel our efforts would be futile anyway. …and so it is with the ecology of the earth and the rights of our land. We have given carte blanche to the earth and soul pirates as we sit back, mouths agape, watching them turn any semblance of light in the world, into dreary darkness. Are these really ramblings, or a wake-up call we have simply forgotten how to answer? Intense poem, Jude, you have given us lots to ponder.
Take care,
Sherry
Certainly ramblings, but of a kind that the power hungry drug lords that manipulate our world must hear, must internalize to bring about change that most likely won't ever happen till it is too late...a very spellbinding write, Bob, as I could read more & never get tired of same...Peace, Ed & Rufuz
