~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the tide is standing still.
menace and innuendo surge in from the sea,
into the night, as an eerie sense of misplaced souls
unable to find their way back to the shore,
forfeit their threshold to sanity,
continuing to be subject
to the eternal assault of a hushed universe
they endeavor to call out
upon echoing waves,
unaware there is no validity in aspirations gone astray
and no sound from the deafness of brilliance.
the rush of thought sometimes falls back onto itself
and frays the treads of its essence
onto the barbwire of its own being,
bleeding its inspiration into undersized sinkholes
scattered across the sure line of doubt and confusion
the resulting hypocrisy of faith and kinship
stagnate upon heated sand, like broken glass melting,
courting the fear of its own shattered oblivion,
rejoining the tide
as it retreats
still moving onward
Jude,
I love the combination of nature and emotions here. This has the feel of frustration and a talented voice going unheard or ignored. Amazing descriptions and a powerful delivery!
You have managed to captured the reader's hidden dark confusions, toss them on a wave of sickly destruction, to face the realities of of human nature, that is at every stage slowly dying. Well Done! Deborah
Captivating and so very intense emotions!
This world is filled with so much
doubt and confusion
Outstanding imagery within the mind of the reader
Especially the "bleeding its inspiration into undersized sinkholes"
Its such deep and intense words
that image is in my mind!
Powerful!!!
Welcome Back!!!
A fascinating write, Jude, and good to see you posting again. As you know, I think your voice is at its strongest and most authentic when you speak from the deep base of your soul's guts. What I especially love about this poem is the tension between humanity's hellish and vociferous madness, clutching seemingly at straws and at each other for reassurance and comfort perhaps, and the hushed silence of the brilliant cosmos, seemingly deaf now to man's empty ideological or religious assumptions and modus operandi. The effect is chilling, like Douglas has said. First the tide is standing still; in the end it is turning on its heel and retreating. The point of time you capture is almost like the moment of a riptide, when the current starts to run backwards owing to prevailing circumstances. Even nature goes against itself. Misplaced souls unable to find their way to shore tread water, weighted down by their sure lines of confusion - great word play here.
Makes me also think of the lyrics to The Doors, Riders On The Storm. And of the shadowing, perhaps, of ideas from another of your poems in which you say: "... a ride into oblivion, You know, that familiar place Where the art of motion Desperately desires to reach out And catapult you back Into the stream of glorious beings... So I wait for you (someone!) To reach in and pull me out..." Nature itself will be complicit in "taking us down" if we don't clarify our sights and our priorities globally pdq. Hence the menace.
... Just a few thoughts to throw into the maelstrom! :)) Hope you're well. xx
"courting the fear of its own shattered oblivion" of all lines here, this one particularily highlighted the plague of humanities insanity...the hushed universe is unity and wholeness...only an occasional human is willing to purposfully join it...the self ego courts the fear and prefers to be in a seperate oblivion....
good to read you again...*hugs*
I love the way you mesmerize with such weighty thoughts that send the imagination and the enlightened mind running throughout each stanza. Awakening thoughts long dormant.
Doubts and confusions do abound here on earth. They will all be solved when we reach the heavenly place someday. Many hypocrites abound and loss of friendships are rampant too, Like the tide that retreats all will come back to you again and again, but flowing with the life standards is living. Take it peacefully and ignore the bad things and pray for all goood to come sooner than later.
When tides stand still is the sign of the dead of the sea, stagnation of spirit, dreams or truth just pull us down, to drown inside the pool of our own uncertainties.
tide standing still...serves as pallbearer to hypocrisy...a heavy cargo of deceitful debris rotted into nothingness that has ended up being whipped by the kelp...ahh, but what is the good kinship? The feathers of moulting sea gulls, the tangible bonding of kinship I give to you Jude, steering clear of the flukes and fools...you've had this one preserved in a set of time capsules waiting for the right time to harpoon, driving the poetic lance home! The shoreline has been nourished and we live in relative harmony...inspiring tide that is cleansing with a current that carries us with your presence.
Love Always,
Sage
I had to read through this one twice
It's like you want to turn up the heat
But you use blocks of ice.
You scream
Yet nothing comes out
You dream
What's this nightmare all about
Can the moon stand still
Can the earth quit revolving
Many problems
Some worth solving.
GREAT POETRY Jude - WORTH WAITING ON
