~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
a solemn love shared within shadows-
where the lingering presence of absent hearts
coalesces with the blood of hardened words
known in isolated places
and unrecognizable dreamscapes
as a fluttering cluster of rotting roots,
overgrown in memory’s soil: coiled
together, in a final twist of desperation,
constricting the essence of their own porous nature
he attempts to rekindle
last year’s crop of stifled ideas
with present relationships,
declining to bud
he watches the rain pour down
washing away nutrients spread so carefully;
his feet planted in a flurry of passing streams.
reflecting on flooded fields of emotion,
he struggles to keep afloat
the moments shared with no one
in a moment of clarity, he gazes to the sky
and consoles drops of water exploding on his face
recognizing above him
is a refreshing harvest of expectations,
nourished by a light yet to transpire
and thoughts attempting to be seen
just love this together with all the other lines:
he attempts to rekindle
last year’s crop of stifled ideas
with present relationships,
declining to bud
palpably true
palpably painful
You leave me breathless with the intense passions that inspired this exceptional poem! One of your best, Jude! Your cool metaphors hide the internal emotions.
RE: "he attempts to rekindle
Jude, some years are bin busters and some years are non-yielding. We, as crops of the earth have to rotate our relationships to prevent infertility. Growth is paramount to discovering our self-worth on the farmer's market. We have to choose the ripest fruits of our labors in perfection. Bruised and pithy are a hard sell. Solemn love needs tilled and this love needs weeded of the strangling roots...I think about you often...be well.
Love,
Sage
Jude,
I like how powerful the different emotions are in this poem. I like how the feeling shifts at the end, too, moving in a more positive direction. Fantastic write:)
It only takes a spark to light a fire.
And out of the ashes
The bloom appears.
Jude,
Oh boy. The futility here is palpable. I know a thing or two about futility...
A master of the art you are my friend. You truly do engineer words. I applaud you for this one. Heck... I applaud all your poems but this one came from way down in. Glad you got it out into the air.
Hugs,
Marcia
Like a powerful kick to the gut, this poem knocked the wind out of me, Jude. The sensation of movement and struggle in your verse is overwhelming and stifling but the glimmer of hope at the end refreshes the spirit. Wonderful work, Jude, one of your best!
Take care,
Sherry
