riding the wind

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
we live on the verge of dying,
life fashioning its own special speed
some of us are like race cars
accelerating as we enter the last lap
focused on the cycle of motion
and the anticipation of completion
hoping our motor won’t overheat
until we cross the finish line
celebrating the rush of being alive
some of us are suspended like leaves
twisting and turning on whims of wind
lodged between battered branches
dried out, crumpling, festering within
we both revisit our origin
waiting for wind to return or another race to begin
Glad I didn't miss this! another Gem! I think I do both,at times racing for the finish line, and other times wanting to just hang like a leaf and wait for whatever, but then I feel also that there is another way for some,like myself, that can't be defined...great thought provoker,as you do so well.;-)ET
This is a very effective and carefully constructed extended metaphor.
Great choice of words for this poem.
The line at the heart of your poem is my favorite
"celebrating the rush of being alive"
Jude this is amazing I have been thinking of sowing down
We live in a fast world but at some time
we must slow down
And enjoy the years we have left!
I have miss reading your beautiful words
Because I been sick
Peace Love and Light
I am really thinking about slowing down and riding the wind...so this poetry gives me the inspiration to do so...goals can be met without drying out, but there comes a time when crisping our soul needs a change of season, Jude...Revolutions per minute outlast the leaves, but the leaves are always mulched into something that produce anew, leaving us with all those new challenges...it's our choice what speed we want to travel...and I am needing to ease my foot off the pedal a bit...thanks for the calm breeze which will accelerate my retirement so I can revisit my origin...be well, Jude.
Love,
Sage
with the wind at my back,
I'm offered no slack,
My sails tight,
Lifes motor running slight,
Still I have to try to win, only right...ed
Interesting choices. . .
To ride or be ridden. . . .
To accelerate or to break. . .
To celebrate or punishment take.
Seems like a no-brainer for me, Jude.
But then, I've always been one that depends on the wind!!
So it circles around, are you a race car driver or a sail boat rider.
Decisions - Decisions. . . . Thought provoking poetry at it's finest.
...and I am savoring each moment like I do that first delicious cup of of coffee on a lazy Saturday morning; awakening the senses and soothing the soul, becoming one with all that surrounds me. This is an excellent offering, Jude. Rich in images and strong with thoughts that linger.
Take care,
Sherry
Excellent write! I choose to be dried out. I think it's a skin condition I have.
