danger’s dysfunction

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 danger is my master
 it forces me to mull over
    events breathing in living rooms
 housed not far from nuclear power plants
 danger is a greater force of fusing winds,
    fragmented by the fractal nature
 in the aftermath of a dream
 staying alive is never really an option
     but having fun thinking about it is
 danger compels me to evade
    those pesky presences
    inheriting
   the chore of following me around
     even into public bathrooms
   or passing by noisy protests at the United Nations
 or walking blindfolded through the hothouse in The Bronx
    or crossing the street to Edgewater Place
 running from a Rottweiler
        whose territory i’ve trespassed
danger is my deceitful companion
     thriving in vacuum of space
 nurtured by the gurgle of gods
    crying out in the web of my dreams
   laughing in melodies of miasma,
 it is the sequence of erratic event
 danger is authority downplaying my survival:
 competing with it, to prevent my demise
danger, the game of risk and reward we play, ever mindful of the balance we must maintain, a black art it is, or lose the game -- Jude, you carried this off quite well my friend -- peace and love -- Jon Michael
Surely, danger lurks all around us, in a way, it is amazing that we evade it so often. Perhaps it is a little game that we play, where we are actually aware of all that surrounds us, but upon occasion, decide to introduce a bit of peril into our otherwise tranquil spaces. That startling surprise is invigorating, bringing reality to us so quickly that it stings as with the snap of lashing leather. A little wake-up call to keep us in a state of observation of all that surrounds us. The truth is that the swirling eddy is far too enticing to not try a little toe-dip now and again. Excellent, cohesive write, Jude.
Take care,
Sherry
"danger is my deceitful companion,"...my favorite lines...but then, every line in this is excellent.It often amazes me how you are able to write about everything and anything, and then cause your readers to think on it.
Jude,
Love where you go with these explorations, danger as master, tease, catalyst and "deceitful companion"
Simply great.
The danger of breath is we never know when or how quickly it can be taken away from us. Is there danger in this world, of course there is but without it what would life be.
Ah Jude, you sqeeze the best out of every topic you touch! This is a superb treatise/poem on danger...It reminds me of a conversation my brother once had with my mother,he would pace the room talking about how people are so unaware of their surroundings,seeing only what's in front of them, never realizing what danger could befall them!
Love,
Eileen
like a rabbit hole of depth in this one and to "constantly compete with it, to prevent my demise" rings multidimensionality to me
danger is our only friend and constant...
we live for it and thrive on the struggle
to overcome it. Excellent pen!
Reminds me, of you avoiding all the mouse traps set for you constantly somewhere, but the language and the entanglements as you walk that path are extra ordinary, a wonderfully expressed fusion of your constant companion, and lifes persistance, a rich melodic dance.
Blessings and peace! Jasmin Horst
Danger? that's you will experience if your mother in law catch you cheating on her daughter.
oooo... livin on the edge... certainly strikes a chord with me! :)) You must be an adrenalin junkie. Some wonderfully provoking stances postured in this poem, whose key line for me is: "danger is my deceitful companion" - and whose seemingly welcome duallism is playfully toyed with in: "its authority suggests not risking my survival as i constantly compete with it, not to prevent my demise". You obviously have a real taste for this as I truly think this is one of your most seemingly effortless best, Kartero; your chosen imagery is tantalising. My most recent skirmish of this type was recently in Mesa Verde, Colorado, when I inadvertently walked right off the edge of a snowbound mountain pass and fell up to my waist in a drift; I had no idea whether I was dangling off the side of a cliff or merely down an unseen gulley, but, too proud and independent to call for help, I eventually managed to claw my way out and arrive back at the car with my head held high, albeit with an extremely wet ass! I'd won though! :)) En garde! reKless Kate xx
'staying alive is never really an option
but having fun thinking about it is'
So true... although, if we didn't continue feeding the body, it would perish.. Gratitude to our brains that guide us to fulfill the compulsion to live, our determination to do so, and our glorious intellectual ability to contemplate everything and anything...
